SuperChef is coming back to town!

by Robin Garr » Fri Apr 17, 2015 8:35 am

To St. Matthews! Posted on Facebook by Darnell Ferguson. Now, trying to figure where this will be. In the strip with El Tarasco and Saigon Cafe?

I bet it's that spot where the weird combo sub shop/mexican joint was for about a minute......

EDITED: Looked it up to find the names! How about on Fairfax where Hubba Bubba Subs/Don Benitos was?

That's great. Alastair over at Prospect Breakfast Club mentioned something to that effect. He worked with Darnell over at the previous SuperChef endeavor in Louisville.

I didn't mind the lack of atmosphere at Seafood Connection, but that seemed to be the most cited complaint among the detractors. Perhaps a new location open all day will solve that issue.

Aside from the "candied bacon," which was a rather limp, syrupy disappointment, SuperChef had fantastic food. We ate at the LowBrow location (now Clifton Donuts) a couple times, and I was sorry to see them go.

Great news! We never made it to the gift shop location, even though that was just blocks from our house (the one time we waited in line, they never came). The new location, if it is in the short-lived Don Benito/Hubba Hubba spot is fantastic for us, within walking distance. It will be good to see worthy local amidst the chains, and a delight that it's neither Mexican nor pizza!

Or maybe Saigon Cafe, which now has brown paper covering the windows, and no For Lease sign like the TexMex/Sub place?

Thanks for that report. Sorry to hear about Saigon Cafe. It started out, after Lemongrass (?) doing pretty good Vietnamese, but it had slipped quite a bit the last time we went.

Just walked by the location this morning. There is a pukka 'Coming - SuperChefs' sign and a new SuperChefs' awning at the former Saigon - not at the Don Benito's / Hubba Hubba spot.
