Bison

I have a pretty good handle on who serves Bison at louisville restaurants, but I'm wondering who sells it...I'd like to cook some at home and I don't remember noticing it at Kroger...

Whole Foods always has a good selection of it - I doubt that it's locally raised, but don't know for sure. Rainbow Blossom generally has some in its smallish meat freezer case.

Doll's Market was carrying some Kentucky bison at one point. You might give them a call.

I just noticed some at the Mid-City Mall ValuMarket yesterday. It was in the freezer case behind the natural food section. I didn't get a good look at it, though, so I'm not sure where it's from.

Bison.

by Doogy R » Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:06 pm

After Jeremy originally posted this, I made a trip to Kentucky Bison Co and picked up 7 pounds of product for $35.00. I got 4# of bulk ground bison, 1# of sausage, 1# of franks and 1# of brats. I used 2# of the ground to make some awesome chili. I have eaten all the franks and brats and I liked the brats better than the franks. The franks weren't bad, it's just that the brats were better, especially with some hot German mustard. I have yet to try the sausage but I sure am looking forward to tasting it.

Dunno about the other farmer's markets, but Kentucky Bison has a lady who (other than the cold winter months) is out at the Bardstown Road Farmer's Market every Saturday morning. Not too many vendors there now.
