Where do you find a great salad?

by Ed Vermillion » Sun Mar 01, 2015 1:45 pm

Spring (and glorious Summer) is speeding towards us none too soon. During those seasons my beautiful bride & I love a great salad meal. Perfect for when you don't want anything heavy and don't really want to mess the kitchen up to make one (we go all in when making our salads). With the loss of Austin's, and what we considered a great house salad, where do you belly up to the green bar?

Ditto's used to have some really great, dinner sized salads. Can anyone confirm that they still do?

Rafferty's has a really good chef salad (although not low-calorie) as well as a couple other nice salads. The nice thing is that most of their salads come in two sizes.

I used to LOVE the Big Salad at City Cafe, but after the branch at Baxter Theatres closed, I don't get to the other(s). Er, are there any City Cafes left?

For local places, Corner Cafe has some great salads, and the Bristol isn't bad.

For salads, though, we tend to hit chains more. They are high in calories, but uniformly good, so I'd have to list Cheesecake Factory our #1 (the Skinnylicious salads aren't bad, tho I like the high-cal versions a tad better).

My wife likes the Grilled Steak Gorgonzola Salad at Comeback Inn a lot. We both like the chicken caesar salad at Carrabba's. Also the Grilled Chicken Chopped Salad at Bravo's. Longhorn has a good salmon-caesar salad.

I love the fatoosh salad at Shiraz. It's wonderful as is or with grilled salmon or grilled chicken kabob on top. :)

Ed, our "go to" salads are the Cobb or Wedge at Lou Lou--both are always fresh, crisp and very, very good!!! Other favorites are the Selena's salad (has beets and radishes) with blackened/grilled chicken breast or Irish Rover's seasonal salad with grilled asparagus and grilled chicken--both are extremely yummy! Like you and Cindy, love salads when the weather warms a bit!!!

Never had their salads, but used to like the sandwiches they provided at WFPK for Live Lunch. I think they still have a branch in U of L's Med school as well as the Broadway spot.

I haven't found a better Ceasar than the one at Mitchell's.

I love the frisco salad (minus a few things) at Rafferty's. (they make their own dressing and it rocks!)

I like Panera's strawberry chicken salad (don't remember the name) that they have in the summer, and their Asian chicken salad as well.

Cafe Lou Lou's tosses some excellent salads.

The Greek salad at Little Jerusalem is also top notch.

Ditto's House Salad has some nice add-ins : avocado, almonds, bacon, eggs, tomato, Monterey jack & smoked gouda. There's enough fat in that alone to forego the dressing, but they have a decent blue cheese. Paired with soup or chili or a loaded baker for around ten bucks, it is a go to dinner choice for us.

Two other favorites that I didn't mention--the Beet Salad and the Chef's Salad at Anoosh's are wonderful!

Yes! I loved that beet-and-goat-cheese salad! The artful spinach salad rolled in thin cuke slices was mighty good too, if it's still on the menu. When we dined there early on it remained on the menu as a Henry's legacy.
