Large event space needed

by Steve H » Thu Feb 05, 2015 12:53 pm

So, my Sweetie is looking for a large event space for a weeknight during the week of May 10th. Just to provide an idea of what she is looking for, her original thought was reserving the bar and patio at 8-Up. This didn't work out because they can't accommodate the 100 expected people.

Here are the particulars as they stand now:
1. 100 people.
2. Cocktail, beer, wine bar service.
3. Appetizers and small plates.
4. Restaurant with a bar is preferred. Separate meeting room in the restaurant is okay. The idea is having a well oiled experience.
5. No special decorating should be required. Ideally, this will be a turn-key proposition in a nicely appointed space.
6. Venue with catering would be considered, if above criteria can be assured. She particularly mentioned no "cheese cube" style event.

Rathskellar is wonderful, and 100 is a perfect size. We didn't find them all that easy to work with, but it's a great space!

Actually,, any of the hotels can do that size. We had perfect food/drink/service at the Marriott, and 21C has the art gallery space(s) for that size.

In May, check the outdoor (as well as indoor) spaces at Marketplace. For venues, we've been to that size parties at the Science Center, the Muhammad Ali Center, and the History Museum. Will the Speed be open by then?

I too recommend Theater Square Marketplace, it's a great venue with a lot of room and wonderful food and service.

How about the historic Peterson-Dumesnil House in Crescent Hill? Plenty of space indoors, plus a big wrap-around porch if you catch a nice Spring day. Catered exclusively by Bristol. Website is petersondumesnil.org.

That's certainly a nice location. One thing I never do understand about places like that is why they only allow one cuter to cuter events in their space. Sometimes somebody wanting to host an event doesn't want to use that caterer for one reason or the other whether it be menu selection or past experience. When not allowing other caterers to use the space it seems like they are cutting out some potential clients.

If you're looking for a catered venue as opposed to a restaurant private room, Clifton Center is another contender.

Great suggestions so far!

I think Marketplace might be a good idea. It's a great venue and it's very close, as this event will be for alumni of the Masters of Business Communications program at Spalding University.

Being close isn't an overwhelming factor though, so keep bringing the suggestions!

Thanks everyone!

additional suggestions should be available at no cost from the Convention & Visitors Bureau

http://www.gotolouisville.com/meeting-p ... index.aspx

You should be able to get a personalized answer in addition to things like the downloadable guides for meeting and family reunion planners.
