Good lunch spots near the airport (SDF)?

by Brad K » Wed Jan 07, 2015 12:34 pm

I need some good lunch spots near the airport (we're on the south side of the airport, near the Ford plant/Fern Valley Rd). We've only got an hour and I'm typically with guys who are happy to go to Subway, Wendy's or Frich's, which doesn't work for me. In the past, I've been to Vietnam Kitchen and gone slumming at Stooges.

I've got Little Jerusalem, Rubbies and Mirage on my short list. Looking for additional ideas. Good eats, relatively quick and not a corporate chain.

TIA.

A place they might like and you would be more OK with: Cardinal Hall of Fame Cafe.

It's a chain (there are Hall of Fame Cafe's near many large stadia in the country), but for that type of restaurant WAY better than Wendy's, Subway, or Frisch's, and there are some local touches.

Sort of aiming at everyone's comfort zone . . .

Thanks Andrew. I've got no problem ditching the other guys. Just looking for good eats.

Cafe Thuy Van is my favorite vietnamese. DaLat has a good banh mi that's very cheap. Pho Binh Minh is good, too. There's a Cuban spot with a good Cuban sandwich in Iroquois Manor, I forget the name.

If Vietnam Kitchen is within reach, then you ought to put Annie Cafe on Woodlawn on your list, too. It's been around for years, and sometimes I think it might be a little better than VK.

If Thuy Van Café is still around, it's an easy trek for you at 5600 National Turnpike, and might be even a little more "ethnic" than VK.

There are a few decent taquerias on national turnpike, too.

El Molcajete - GREAT Mexican food . . . their specialty (the El Molcajete) is huge for lunch, but I have confidence in you!

Mirage Mediterranean Restaurant has awesome food! The address is 4100 Preston Highway. You can check out some of the reviews on Yelp here. http://www.yelp.com/biz/mirage-mediterranean-restaurant-louisville

Grind is close--not far from Phillip's Lane. It's north of the airport, but not by much.

I'll second Frank's! They make some awesome sandwiches! Don't get scared if you see a long line. Those lines move incredibly fast. The folks behind the deli are quick as lightening! :) By the way, one of my friends who works at the airport said he went there all the time for lunch. :)

I often run in to Kuhl's on Grade Lane for the food counter sandwiches and soups.

And am often glad I did.

Annie's and El Molcajete seconded.

I also really like Santa Fe.

In addition to the great food, the food comes out pretty quickly at all of the above.

Another idea is the deli at Valu Market, Iroquois.
