I did this a lot this year by buying minipackages to the Bats, Actor's Theater Bucks, and dinner at local eateries!

This is absolutely my goal for the holiday season! I'm a late shopper this year, but I've started with cans of Jackson's Organic Coffee. I plan to hit local wine shops/liquor store for a few more gifts. Then Carmichael's.

Book Sense gift certificates are a GREAT way to support local bookstores if you wanted to buy one for someone out of town - that's what i am getting my brother who is temporarily living in COlumbia, SC, spends a lot of time in Asheville, and is quickly coming through Louisville for the holidays. All 3 towns have independent bookstores that accept Book Sense gift certificates.

Probably will hit Just Creations for a few treats as well.

My mom has requested perfume, however, and that one has me stumped! Locally owned shops selling perfume anyone??

I forgot about my husband's family in the original post. We got his step-dad, who is a big wine nut - a handblown glass wine stopper like this Image

from glassdreamz on Bonnycastle.

And we got his grandmother a handblown glass ornament from Natural Mystic.

I would also suggest the WHY Louisville store for the homesick natives, the Knit Nook for something warm and fuzzy and Grateful Threads for some fabulous silver jewelry!

OK I will stop now! :D

Absolutely! While we're at it, let's not forget specifically to give our support to the Louisville Originals and the other similar local spots that for one reason or another haven't joined the Originals' ranks. Dine locally - and while you're at it, leave your favorites a little extra tip for the holiday season.

Jackson's was Public Radio Partnership's Christmas gift this year to underwriters (this one, at least). Though that was a nice touch.

I found some great KY gifts to send to out-of-town friends this Christmas:

1. Kentucky strawberry wine from Liquor Barn. I tried it at a tasting a few months ago, and it's a very pleasant, fruity dessert wine.

2. Derby Pie. Taste of Kentucky does a very nice job of wrapping these with ribbon, accessorized with a horseshoe from Churchill Downs and a little bag of bluegrass seed.

3. Miss Charlotte's jams and preserves. I buy these at the Bardstown Road Farmers Market. Lots of delicious fruit and herb combinations (pear jelly with basil is one, and it's delicious).

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. D Barry

Roger, since you started this thread...

I want a 1/6 barrel of Kentucky Kommon for Christmas.

Any chance on Santa being able to fulfill that request???

 I've been a (pretty) good girl!

Went to a show of local artsist that had original works for 20 bucks this past Saturday. Great turnout. Get an original for 20 dollars - pretty nice!

Thanks Heather, you were one of our first customers and have become someone I look forward to seeing on a daily basis . We always seem to have a laugh when you come through..

TP , I hope you enjoyed the coffee. I was very flattered and excited to be involved with public radio. It says a lot about them and their support for local business. I have to thank Danielle Manley for putting that together.

While I'm on the box I would just like to thank everyone who has made this year a rewarding one for us and given us their support. Anyone who has started a small business will agree, it's harder than they ever thought it would be but the rewards and friends you make along the way make it worth while..... perhaps next year we will be able to pay the bills.

Happy Holidays everyone from Sondra and Myself.

I second that, but don't forget the Kentucky Ale! Liquor barn has some nice gift baskets with Kentucky products which include local wines & beers, including ours. I'm doing a tasting tonight from 5-7 at the Hurstborne location.

If you're feeling charitable this holiday season, we filled collectible ceramic bottles with a special batch of Bourbon Barrel Ale featuring Chris McCarron and Precisionist with proceeds going to a thoroughbred rescue farm and a disabled jockeys fund. There's also growlers of our award winning Hefeweizen still available at the LB's. Merry Christmas forumites!

You don't have to thank me Christopher! :)

You put out an amazing product and I am happy to spread the word.

Happy Holidays! Probably will see you next Wednesday morning!
