Spinelli's Dixie

by Tony G » Fri Nov 14, 2014 9:46 pm

It's a cold Friday night, we've both worked long hard weeks. The wife suggests a pizza delivered. I'm always wary of delivery pizza. It only took 30 minutes for the delivery. The guy was so nice (and earned a good tip for the service). It was expensive, but man oh man was this a fabulous pie! Our first experience (since moving back into Jeff Co) with Spinelli's. Thin crust, perfectly cooked, still semi hot on arrival. My impression is that these guys know what they are doing. I realize that delivery pizza is a crap shoot. They just earned themselves a repeat customer. This might not be the place to comment on common man food, delivered, but I am so impressed I had to sing their praises tonite.

No, Tony, it's perfectly in place and appropriate. We can't all afford to do fancy food every night around here!

Welcome back to the metro, and thanks for this post.

We used to get pizzas from Spinelli's at the LEO offices. I always thought they were excellent. I wish we had one out here in the boonies.

This is going to sound really stupid, since I wear one of my several hats at a "business" literally right around the corner, but isn't the Spinelli's at Goose Creek and Westport still open? That's not a long haul for you, is it?

Well...it is less of a hike but it is outside of a delivery area. And if I pick up a pizza and drive home it would be cold by the time I got there. (Sigh) I am one of the few people that doesn't like cold pizza.

Hand raised here. But, do you have a toaster oven? Or even a regular oven? Reheated pizza is often even better!

A toaster oven is a 'must have' for reheating pizza slices. I put them right on the rack, which often improves the texture to 'better than new'.

This all reminds me of a blast from my long receded past....

Many moons ago when we lived in one of the older suburbs of Dallas, there was a little pizza place named Pepe's. They always, ALWAYS under cooked their pizzas. So, when we ordered, we'd start the oven preheating and then immediately throw the pie in there as soon as it arrived. Turns out, this was actually how to create a superior delivery pizza, and thus became frequent customers. We dubbed them Pepe's Half-baked pizza.

Alas, too few of their other customers caught on and they eventually went out of business. Sigh....

Spinellis on Dixie is a wonderful addition... I have no problems ordering from them for delivery and the food will always be good... however I don't care much to go there to eat as it is a bar destination more than a pizza restaurant and I find it a rough crowd and not an environment I would like kids to go to.

I hate to judge a place by the customer's that are there but I heard more loud profanity there from their patrons than anything else in there. It's not an environment I would take kids to, but I have no problem ordering pizza to be delivered there or stopping in to get a slice or too to take out.
