What's your go-to place for a wintry evening?

by Robin Garr » Fri Nov 14, 2014 9:13 am

This weather has me thinking about which of our city's great eateries is particularly inviting on a blustery, cold late-autumn or winter evening. In other words, a week like this!

The fireplace at Bistro 1860 comes immediately to mind, but what else have we got? Name your favorites, and let's see if we can come up with a handy go-to list. If we get enough entries, we'll follow up with a popularity poll.

Go!

You beat me to it! Combining the warmth of the fireplace with the comfortable surroundings make you feel like you're almost in your home den! Throw in the gumbo or any of their other dishes and you have a very comfortable evening.

Ha! You're all wrong. The answer in everywhere! Ha. Honestly I love a great atmosphere and a fireplace sounds nice, but when I get hungry on some nights winter or summer I just need to know I am going to like if not love my meal. Maybe a warm pasta dish at Comeback Inn or a spectacular wintry view of our beloved river from Rivue atop the Galt House. Honestly when it's time to eat just about anywhere will do in the winter.

For me, it isn't about ambiance. Nights like that are all about a good for a brisk walk to a neighborhood place. I'd go for Loop 22, as I did last night, followed by a beer at Great Flood. Or, I'm anxious to go in the other direction and try Louvino, followed by a porter at Cumberland. Let it snow!

This is an answer to a slightly different question, but my favorite cold weather dish is the Clay Pot Catfish ay Basa. Delicious fish in a bacony galze with a big steamy bowl of lemongrass scented broth. Gee I wish I had some now.
