Caroline's Alpine House???

by Tony G » Fri Sep 26, 2014 4:53 pm

Passed this place today in Radcliff. Any reports? The building looked like an authentic German pub/restaurant. Kinda looked out of place there.

Run fast. Now run faster.

That place is a culinary abomination. It's as authentic as you can get from cysco foods. EVERYTHING IS FROZEN OR CANNED. Schnitzel is pretty easy to do and they f it up.

The reviews on yelp are accurate on this one.

The only redeeming quality is St Bernardus Abt 12 on tap.

Before Caroline the owner lost her original location (Schnitzel Barn) to the new section of Hwy 313/Joe Prather Hwy in Vine Grove a few yrs ago, the food was excellent and easily comparable to anything a German grandma would cook up for you. Everything was fresh, made to order and brimming with flavor.
Now, not so much. While the outside of the building looks sorta authenic, the inside looks nothing of the sort and sadly, the menu suffers as well. As was stated above, if it isn't canned, frozen or bagged, it doesn't exist which is sad knowing how good it once was.

Appears as though they are closing. Can't say I am surprised. Blaming the downsizing of ft Knox when the problems were the frozen slop they tried to pass off as authentic German food.

This made me think about the Doe Run Inn, up in the Brandenburg direction. Haven't heard anything about that place in years, not that they were ever a restaurant of note, per se.
