Sort of related to viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22404?

I would not prepay for a "normal" meal, but I have prepaid and/or left a credit card for a "special" meal, such as a wine dinner, a New Year reservation, and others where a no-show could severely hurt the venue.

I know that it's profiling and not allowed but just by looking at her I would think that one could question her ability to pay for a meal at Ruths Chris. I especially like how the person she called to pay for the meal also stated that she owed him money!

As far as the original topic it goes I think prepaying for a meal is a bit over the top but having to leave a credit card number and pay a no show charge if something I agree with.

I thought is was interesting that it limited folks camping at the table. It made me think of places like Qdoba or Chipotle. There's really no camping at those places, so it seems like there might be something to it.

I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger on Friday? Absurd.

That's appropriate.

Why is that more absurd than paying for a plane ticket weeks before you fly?

I see a plane ticket as a reservation for a specific event that is going to happen in the near future, no different than making a reservation at a restaurant. But to go ahead and order days in advance seems crazy. What if I order the burger today and when I get to the restaurant on Friday, I want pasta.

(just gave the original link a closer read) If all we are talking about is paying first rather than paying last, then that's what fast food and fast casual already do and it's great! Paying first means that the guest can leave when they want, they don't depend on the restaurant to finalize the transaction. I love pay first.

As previously mentioned, plenty of places do prepay. For a sit down meal at a restaurant with a server, patrons might find prepayment annoying/impractical if they are ordering as they go... drinks, dessert, etc.

Personally, I'd like to see more places disallow tipping, and just build employee costs into the menu prices. My experiences at such restaurants (mainly out of town) have been overwhelmingly positive.
