Restaurants Compete for "Top Hog" at Butchertown Porktoberfest

The 2nd Annual Butchertown Porktoberfest will be held at Copper and Kings, 1111 E. Washington St., on Friday, Oct. 10 from 5-10 p.m. This pork-inspired culinary competition will feature live music by Billy Goat Strut Revue, local brew from Apocalypse Brewery, cocktails from Copper & Kings, and food from more than 10 Louisville restaurants. (Vegetarian options also available.) Admission is free and food/beverage tickets will be sold with all proceeds benefiting the Butchertown Neighborhood Association Inc.

Participating restaurants include Decca, Feast, Wiltshire, Gralehaus, Louisville Jerky Company, Holy Grale, Taco Punk, Troll Pub and Sidebar.

Cash prize will be awarded to the winners of the five categories: Best Overall. People's Choice, Best Vegetarian, Most Creative, and Best Dessert. The Best Overall category will be selected based on taste, presentation and originality by a panel of judges, and the "People's Choice," "Best Vegetarian," "Most Creative" and "Best Dessert" will be awarded by the attendees. In addition to the cash, all winners will receive an awesome Porktoberfest Trophy.

The 2014 Butchertown Porktoberfest is sponsored by the participating restaurants, as well as the Republic Bank, The Eye Care Institute, White Clay, Mperfect Design, 4th District Metro Councilman David Tandy.

Don't know if it's pandering or not but I was glad to see it. Otherwise it was just going to be another food event for me to pass up because I don't eat meat. (Shrugs) Me thinks me and my kind are a growing group and there's little reason to whittle out a large population of foodies.

I'm holding out for the "Vegetable Festival" with a caveat "meat options also available..."

Well....wouldn't that be a good idea?

Kinda brings to mind Ned Flanders' The Left Handers Shop.

Porktoberfest was really cool last year. Looking forward to this year. I hope there are taco-tarian options as well. :D

No stirring indeed, but it is blasphemy at a PORKtoberfest to substitute whatever that is for an incredible andouille! (remember, pigs are plant based too!)

Thanks for the non-stirring cred.
