Best Onion Rings?

by Aaron Newton » Mon Dec 17, 2007 11:55 am

Not too long ago we had a thread on best french fries, but I couldn't find anything through search on best onion rings. Who has the best, in your opinion? I haven't had any locally (except once from white castles) in quite a while, and within the last week I've been craving them bad. Help me out!

You know what? I actually really like the ones from Dairy Queen.

Molly's has nice onion rings too. I love them when they have a great beer batter on them.

The best fast food ones I've had are Steak and Shake.

I like the ones at Steak and Shake also...
But I REALLY like what they have at Clarksville Seafood. Not really an onion ring per say, A kind of dredged in seasoned flour and fried mess that is quite tasty!

The rings at Stan's Fish Sandwich are outstanding.

In fact, I'd suggest that any local, independent fried-fish eatery is likely to do rings well because it involves the same frying technique, and they've got a lot of experience. The Fish House, The Fishery and others also have estimable rings.

I can remember overdosing on Linning's onion rings and Mark's onion straws quite a few times in the past, but haven't been to either in quite a while. Strangely I don't think I've ever had the onion rings at Steak n Shake, even though it's my favorite fast food burger. Gonna put all the others on the list though! The advice about seeking out fish fry joints makes a lotta sense.

Frisch's has good ones. And I like the ones at the Fishery. Last time I had a Bloomin Onion at Outback it hit the spot too. Will have to try Stan's!

Never had the rings, but Hill St. Fish Fry is my favorite of the many Louisville 'fried fish' spots...

Love that place!
