Gaah! CJ ad on forum!

by Robin Garr » Wed Aug 06, 2014 1:39 pm

So Google AdSense just displayed a Courier-Journal advert in the left-hand column. This, of course, is loathsome to me. But should I set AdSense to reject them? Or just shut up and take their money? Mmm, never mind, I think I just answered my own question ...

I use AdBlock on both my Mac Safari browser and on my PC's Chrome browser, so I never even see the ads on HotBytes, Facebook, etc.

Ummmm ... John? John, John, John. Just for the record, this forum is a business. A very small business, but still.

I assume you don't "dine-and-dash" when you patronize a small local eatery. Any chance we could talk you into not shutting down a small but constant source of revenue when you visit here? Google AdSense tries, in its own semi-competent way, to serve you ads that might be of value to you.

Who boy. Just realized I had it on as well. Off now, and feeling sheepishly apologetic.

Thanks, TP! I might add that I am not permitted to (nor do I wish to) solicit meaningless clicks on those ads. But if you guys ever notice one that actually looks interesting - and with Google's contextual algorithms, it could happen - then clicks are what actually makes the cash-register go "ka-ching."
