Who remembers the original Jack Fry's and Mr Fry?

by Robin Garr » Tue Jul 29, 2014 3:54 pm

I'm looking for stories about the original Jack Fry's and Mr Fry himself. Steve Shade, haven't you told tales about underage booze coming out the back door?

Share 'em if you've got 'em!

Sorry. I only go back as far as Por Que' No.

Right block, wrong door, Carla, I think. Wasn't Por Que No where the cycle shop and then Lemongrass/La Que/etc ended up? I'm pretty sure that Jack Fry's kept its sign up without interruption, going over from Mr Fry's saloon to the more upscale spot without an interim. But I could be wrong. Anyone?

Pretty sure Jack Fry's became Por Que Nos because I had never heard of Jack Fry's until it's second reincarnation and I lived directly behind Por Que Nos on Cherokee Rd.
Of course, there is always an element of error when dealing with the 70s. Things sometimes blurr.

The more I think about this the more positive I am because the bar within Por Que Nos remained in the same location after the switch back to Jack Frys

I should have known better than to question Carla! :D

I would still love to have a reminiscence from someone who remembers Mr Fry and the old saloon, though!

Well thank you for the positive stroke but never stop questioning me. I am the person that can get lost in a phone booth.

I lived above Jack Frys in the mid 70's late 70's. I worked most of the time at Jack Frys, waited and cooking in the kitchen. I also lived next to Jack. He was older at the time and came down to the kitchen in the morning to wash dishes and hang out. Unfortunately it was a hazy crazy time and I only remember bits and pieces of it. And yes, the Mexican restaurant that was in the same spot, was my true introduction to Mexican food. I went with my dad all the time, he think he wrote insurance for them, and I remember loving the green chili burritos. I will rack the old memory for more tidbits. Till then. Bill.
