(more) Pizza-pizza

by Steve P » Wed May 28, 2014 6:08 pm

Here's an interesting little slide show from the WDRB website listing "viewers choice" pizzerias in "Kentuckiana"...Personally I'd never heard of half of them but I'm always on the lookout for (another) good pie.

I think there are forty-something shops on the slide-show....It'd be interesting to see who on the forum has tried the most of them. :D I'm at "12" which I suppose is respectable but not earth shaking.

19 - DiOrios is my new fave, but still love me some Angilo's and Bonnie & Clydes (old Shakeys Pizza) if I'm in that area 8)

We've tried 18 of those on the list and would probably go back to about 10 of them on a regular basis depending on location. If this is just a list of favorites I must have included a lot of people's choices! I wonder how few votes you had to get to not make the list? I wonder if anybody has ever compiled a list of how many different pizza places (by name not location) we have around town?

Did I miss Mr. Gatti's on that list? I grew up on that pizza and, admittedly, I love it.

So did I, Alexis!! I still love it, much to my husband's horror. Growing up, Mr Gattis was the go-to spot for end of season sports parties. As a child, there was nothing better than getting (likely undeserved, ha) trophies and stuffing yourself with pizza and soda. In middle school, the PTA sold large pepperoni pizzas one Friday a month during lunch as a fundraiser. They worked out some sort of deal with Mr Gattis to get the pizzas at a discount. We would gather 3 of our friends and each bring $2.50 to share the $10 pizza. Ah, memories!

I crave it every once in a while and takeout a large pepperoni. My husband piles on enough crushed red pepper and parmesan cheese to make even cardboard taste good, so he's satisfied.

I've missed 19 of them, mostly family shops in out of the way places like Seymour, Indiana. A couple of the ones I've missed look like they might be worth a trip! (I spent a six-month spell a while back working every Sunday in Bardstown but never even noticed the one they showed from there.)

Glad to see they included "Steve-O's", in Buckner...while most of their entrees are standard, red-sauce Italian-American fare, the pizza is excellent, and arguably the best in the OC...

You mean pizza. As opposed to poser pizza.

Ignoring all the "kids sleep-over" pizza joints, when your choices in the OC consist of Steve-Oh's, Frascellli's and Hometown it's not much of an argument. Steve-Oh's wins hands down.

Eighteen for me but counting the original location of Danny Mac's, as well as Teena's but when it was Frolio's, so I guess I'm cheating. Thought I'd had all the pizza there was to have - guess not. Was Anselmo's on that list?
