I don't think the Jack's Lounge sandwich is sea bass anymore, maybe cod now?

Another vote for Baxter Station. I love the fish sandwich at Cunningham's, too, but I actually think of it as a "fish sandwich" place in general.

I know that it is a fish place...but the Hungry Pelican in Fern Creek has a great one either fried or broiled on a hogie bun... :D

The grilled tuna sand at Molly Malone's was awesome a couple of weeks ago when I ate there.

I have to give a shout out to a non traditional fish sandwich....

The fish tacos at On the Border are exceptional...Very tasty, well presented and quite the bargain for what you get....

Actually, For a chain I've never had a bad meal at this place...It's very flavorful for this kind of joint...It seems that they might have picked up some of the slack for this market where Tumbleweed left off!

Dan,

On the Border's fish tacos aren't bad (better than Ballyhoo's), but Bazo's and El Mundo's are much, much better. Bazo's has the more traditional fish tacos, similar to On the Border, while El Mundo's is more of a platter that you pretty much have to eat with a knife and fork. Have you tried either of those places?

Have to put in a second vote for Jack's, regardless of whether the fish is bass or cod, it's wonderful!

I have eaten at Bazo's several times but I feel that since the ownership change, its been a little off at times. However defiantly a more traditional fish taco similar to the original from Rubino's

Rubio's?

by Sanjay S » Sun Dec 16, 2007 3:24 pm

Do you mean Rubio's? I've never heard of Rubino's.... I actually don't think much of the fish tacos at Rubio's (I think Wahoo's and Fin's are better as far as the chains go and there are a LOT of independents that are much better) and I certainly wouldn't call them "the original" - there have been fish taco restaurants and stands all over the pacific coast of Mexico and southern California for decades. Rubio's was just the first largely successful chain of fish taco restaurants in the US. It's almost like saying a hamburger from McDonald's (or White Castle) is the original burger. Sorry, I didn't mean to go off on a rant like that - guess I'm just picky about my fish tacos! :)

As for Bazo's, I haven't noticed anything "off" since the ownership change - if anything, the food seems to be more consistent lately.

But I suppose we should get back to the main topic of this thread. I do like the fish and chips at The Irish Rover and the grouper at Havana Rumba, but haven't tried the sandwich at Cumberland Brews or Cunninghams. I guess I'll have to add them to my list of places to try! I really appreciate all the advice and opinions on this forum - it's a wonderful resource for the local restaurant scene.

Thanks everyone!

Rubinos was a independent restaurant that closed a few years ago. Was located on Dutchmans Lane and also in Middletown.
