Chances are excellent that while these dim hipsters won't eat gluten they WILL down 1/2 dozen diet soft drinks a day and go out for a couple lines of the big C.
Jeesh! Save us from posers.

I didn't see a single hipster represented in that video, nor do I understand the disdain for a dining clientele that generally complains the least, tips the most, and isn't afraid of spending money on good food.

Hipsters, in my personal experience, are some of the least likely to fabricate a gluten allergy/intolerance.

I have included a photo of hipsters (read: I googled hipster and selected the first photo) for your reference so you may ascertain the ability to spot them in the wild.

I believe the people you're referring to are called yuppies, for a lack of a better term.

Ryan I stand corrected. Actually of was thinking poser or, in this case, a health dilettante.

Nor would I include those unfortunate ones that honestly DO suffer from celiacs . (Most unfortunate health issue to have to deal with. )

There is a ton of good reasons to go gluten free and those are well documented and supported by scientific research. BUT...

Like many good ideas, people want the cache of being an adopter of the idea. They want the adulation of being in the in-crowd and have no idea why that crowd exists or what they are doing there. Kony 2012, WWJD, Livestrong, Vote for (insert name), I'm on (insert name) diet, there are tons of decent ideas that become bandwagons, buzz words, and ultimately over saturated nonsense.

This is now one of them. For all those with celiac disease, I apologized for all the uneducated gluten-free bandwagoners.

This. "Hipsters" generally are kind people who like to talk about good food and laugh a lot. I never understood the "hate".

From what I can tell, 70% of people who use the term hipster have no definite idea what it actually means. Like the folks in the OP's video with gluten.

The rest of the time, there is MUCH assuming of conclusions. E.g., "That guy has a big beard and slim jeans. Therefore he's a hipster. Thefore I hate him. Because hipsters are [insert all the stuff from that blog post]." This is often done without stopping to consider whether that individual with the beard actuall possesses those characteristics.

Short version: Hipster is mostly not a helpful word, and I'd encourage everyone to strike it from their vocabulary.

The previous generation always hates on youth culture. Greasers, hippies, punks, hip hoppers, yuppies, and those oh so annoying jazz age flappers blah blah blah. I don't want to be an old fart and hate all the kids on my lawn. It makes me look old.

If one more frisbee lands in my yard, I'm opening a store.

I forgot that hipsters are a protected class  Honestly, though, its more about anyone who jumps on a trend and makes it obnoxious, than it is about this group or that group. I know a person ("hipster") who collects records. When asked what kind of record player he had, he replied that he didn't have one. That's what I'm on about. Same for gluten.

This!
Anybody that has a conversation with me that goes (or implies)..."you really should (fill in the blank)" and cannot give me an educated , thought out, well researched answer as to why I "should" will be shown the door. And I keep the frisbee.
