Graeter's launches Derb ... er, Seelbach Pie ice cream

by Robin Garr » Tue Apr 29, 2014 3:22 pm

This news release came a day after the one-week special hit the stores, and the recipe sure does sound familiar!

Graeter’s Ice Cream and The Seelbach Hilton Hotel will feature a new, limited flavor called Seelbach Pie ice cream.

The new flavor mixes the famous Seelbach Pie, which includes flaky pie crust and a gooey filling of bourbon, chocolate and pecans, with Graeter’s Madagascar Vanilla Bean ice cream. The Seelbach Pie ice cream is available at all Graeter’s retail locations throughout Derby week, Monday, April 28 through Sunday, May 4.

“We combine the Seelbach pies with our Madagascar Vanilla Bean ice cream the same way we combine our famous chocolate chips into flavors,” explains co-Franchise owner Jay Tedesso. “After the small batch, artisanal-style ice cream has been made, we add the Seelbach Pies into the ice cream and allow our blades to combine the flavor. The blades will cut up the pies and mix the filling and crust into the ice cream in a variety of sizes. This makes every bite different in texture and flavor, making every bite interesting.”

The Seelbach Pie flavor will also be used in a double scoop sundae called the Derby Duo, which pairs the ice cream with Graeter’s Bourbon Ball ice cream, that consists of Kentucky bourbon, crispy pecans and dark chocolate. The double scoop sundae will be topped with butterscotch, bittersweet chocolate, pecans, homemade whipped cream and a cherry.

The Seelbach Pie ice cream and the Derby Duo sundae will be available in Graeter’s store locations for one week only – April 28 through May 4 in Louisville, Lexington and Southern Indiana. Graeter’s will not carry the Seelbach Pie flavor after this set date, but patrons will be able to get their fill of this delicious dessert year round at The Oakroom or Gatsby’s restaurants located in The Seelbach Hilton Hotel.
