does anyone know where I can buy masa for homemade tamales?

by Tina Marsh » Sun Dec 09, 2007 6:21 pm

Does anyone know where they might sell masa, the dough for tamales, in Louisville? I want to try making tamales but my friend's mom, who makes them every Christmas, tells me that it's easier to start with purchased dough. She used to make her own dough but said it's so much easier to do it with pre-made dough that some specialty stores sell in her area of Texas.

Thanks in advance if anyone does know of anywhere in Louisville where masa dough is sold. I do know where to find the masa flour, but not the dough.

Try creation gardens. They also sell it at most kroger's.

I believe there is still a mexican grocery store on Shepherdsville Rd just south of Fern Valley Rd.

Kind of far away, but I remember it from when I used to work at GE.

I'm almost positive I saw it at the Highlands ValuMarket in the international aisle. Call first to make sure.

Fyi....they also have the corn husks. I spent some time checking them out.

Folks, you have to read her post, she knows where to get the flour. She wants the premade jazz, the dough. I am not saying that Meijer or Kroger doesn't carry the dough, I have just only seen the flour in my visits. I wish I could help. I would say search the Preston Hwy area for that. There are a couple bakery's and grocers over there.

Just a question... What are you filling your holiday tamales with?
