Re: The Place Downstairs- wow!

That dinner was amazing! Every course brought a grin to my face while my feet did the happy dance under the table. Got to say, the eye of ribeye entree blew my mind. A magnificent chunk of perfectly medium rare beef served with pureed caramelized onion puree (I want a jar of that in my fridge), horseradish creme, and MARROW FRITTERS! Marrow fritters, I will dream of them.

Wonderfully conceived and executed cocktails. I had a Global Warning, Tito's vodka, mango, St germaine, and poblamo pepper served in a frozen copper mug. The wine list is beautifully curated, with a fine selection of wines by the glass.

I predict a 4 month wait list for what is going to be the hottest reservation in Louisville. Get them in now!

Robin, I emailed it to you. We have other pics from that night, too, if you'd be interested.

Just to add to the accolades . . .

We ordered the octopus, the campfire jar, a duck, and the ribeye, and had the ice cream cones and goat cheese pear cake desserts, and one was better than the next! The flavor combinations on virtually each dish were so unique - and worked well beyond expectations - that I have difficulty describing them other than "you'll have to try them for yourself" (and I'm confident that after what's been written here most forum members will do just that!).

Our one complaint (if you want to call it that) was that we ordered (and totally finished) too much! The servings are larger than they seem at first, and we had a ton of food to get through. I'm almost sorry it was so good - we did somehow manage to finish absolutely everything. I think that the campfire jar was very rich; we talked that one time we might come in for just some drinks in the relaxing bar area, split a jar or two, maybe split an appetizer, and have a great night, while the next time we eat at the actual restaurant part we'd skip the jars and maybe try two appetizers?

One thing I'd like to mention is that the Old Fashioned was possibly the best I've ever had in my life. The blend of spirits, bitters, et al - even to the unusual large ice cube - was the smoothest drink I can remember. My wife and I were fighting over who got that, and that's what led to our wanting to come back and just get Old Fashioneds and a jar or two in the lounge!

Another glowing review here. We dined there last night. Had a Passiontini cocktail (they concocted it for me based upon my likes), butternut squash soup, the winter salad, pork jar, ribeye special and chocolate dessert. I am not exaggerating when I say this food was some of the best I have ever put in my mouth. The soup and dessert stand out as my favorites. It was not very crowded last night so you can probably still get a reservation. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic yet also casual. The wait staff was very attentive and the manager went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of.
