Holy grale is the best I've had in Louisville. When I go there, it's more like an event as opposed to just going for the fine beer and their awesome burger. However, I've yet to try many that are lauded here. Apparently, I have to try Bambi Bar's, Granville's, Grind's etc..

Others I am very impressed with is Jack Fry's, Bluegrass Burgers' and the bison burgers at Cumberland Brews and BBC St. Mathews.

M&BB
Shady Lane
Home Run Burgers
Game
and the list could go on and on.

At least for me the best burger in town changes from day to day depending on what I'm looking for. Am I looking for a burger that's going to be a huge filling meal, one that I can get in each quickly, one that's gourmet or unusual, etc. It also depends on what part of town I'm in etc. I think the answer to this question are as diverse as the personalities and backgrounds of the members here.

Holy Grale, Jack Fry's and Bunz used to be my favorites. The 21C burger and Game's are pretty great, too. But these days I think I like Eiderdown's the best. Bacon ground into a burger ensures an even level of bacon flavor throughout, too. Plus they have all those different mustards. It's simple, but it's exactly what I want from a burger.

It's impossible for me it narrow it down to less than 10. On any given day depending on my mood or budget, these are the burgers I like the most. Usually I just go for a simply dressed burger with cheese.
In no particular order:
Ollie's Trolley
Smash Burger
Mussel & Buger Bar
Steak & Shake
Bristol (English Muffin for the bun!)
Shady Lane Cafe
Equus-Jack's Lounge
Bunz
Wagner's Pharmacy
Home Run Burgers
And my favorite fast food burger is Hardee's. Snicker if you like, but they have really stepped up thier game as far as food quality.

I will put our Monkey Wrench burger up against any in town.

My personal favorites outside of my own burger...
Shady Lane Cafe - Classic, delicious
Eiderdown - Love it
Jack Frys
Dustin Staggers

I actually had a great burger at Troll Pub under the Bridge this past weekend. I had the Classic burger and found it to be really well made. It was a 1/2 pounder on a Brioche bun with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo, and I had them hold the red onion. They had some other intriguing burgers on the menu, but I always try a simple burger at a place first before I move onto the more adventurous styles. When they put it on the table I thought there was no way I was going to finish it, but it was so good that I did anyway.

A friend got their veggie burger and claimed it to be the best she's ever had. I can't vote on that, but the ingredient list looked good. Spicy black bean base I believe.

I'd have to put Culver's in the best fast food burger category.

It's difficult to pin down a single favorite, but I can narrow it down to two in the fancy burger category:
  • Game
  • Mussel and Burger Bar
And for a fast food burger, I'm partial to Smashburger.

As far as fast food goes, there is culvers and nothing else. It's delicious.

My family actually once did a burger crawl to find the best burger in the city. The chef at Mulligan’s got wind of what we were doing and made absolutely the perfect cheeseburger. Perfectly cooked and it looked like it was done by a food stylist. Never been topped, and sadly later trips to Mulligan's haven't come close in quality.

I saw Todd mention the Troll Pub. I once had an AMAZING burger on a pretzel bun there. I've tried to order it three times since then. Each time they were drastically different in terms of what was even on the burger. Patty was clearly processed. It looked like a frozen patty. Ingredients varied wildly too. Haven't been back since due to the fact that the only thing consistent was the lack of quality. Maybe that's changed in the past year.

I've been saying the same thing for years. Nothing comes close to their Double Butterburger Deluxe.

Best non-fastfood is Shady Lane.
