Best salsa in town?

by Rob S » Sat Jan 25, 2014 2:41 am

I would give anything for the recipe from Lexington's High on Rose restaurant from the mid-80's. Like one with cilantro mixed in. Chuy's is good but want something with a little less bite. I would like to investigate some of the Mexican restaurants down Preston - anyone have a favorite?

La Tapatia, out at Blue Lick, has always been good. I've also heard an excellent report on El Pastor (?) at Gilmore Lane (former Rosticeria Luna).

We still love Senior Iguanas salsa. Plenty of cilantro there and always very fresh!

I'm pretty fond of the three salsas at Guaca Mole.

El Molcajete has a signature smoky warm dark salsa with onions and cilantro. It's not my favorite but it is unusual. Most of the places down Preston have a trio of red, a green, and a oil-based creamy green. I haven't found any to be very noteworthy. My favorite salsas overall are probably at El Camino. They aren't free, though.

I am a big fan of Senor Iguanas cilantro filled salsa, but my overall favorite is Taco Punk 's pineapple habanero. I wish they would sale it by the gallon.

Exactly what I was thinking when I 1st saw the title of the thread. They are all so different yet great in their own regard.

Another vote for Senor Iguana's, because I love cilantro. But the mention above of pineapple and habanero sounds delicious. I need to check that out.

Sol Aztecas has an excellent tomatillo salsa. Unfortunately, it's the best thing I could say about the place.

Another fan of Senor Iguana's salsa though I'm most highly fond of their "white salsa". Don't know what's in it but it is addictive.

It's not at a restaurant but you can get it at the farmers market. It is awesome!
