Chipotle coming to Highlands

by James Natsis » Fri Jan 17, 2014 3:52 pm

I'm not a big Chipotle fan, but anytime you can trade an Arby's for a Chipotle its a good deal, especially on Bardstown Rd.

I'd like to trade one of the fast food joints in Southern Indiana for a Chipotle. :P

I suddenly have fond memories of jamocha shakes and curly fries. :)

Is it just me or is that jamocha flavor several notches below where it started?

My first paying job (other than cutting lawns) was at Arby's in 1969. The jamocha (I didn't even know what the word was in those days), was much stronger than today's variety...I got the hankering a few months ago and could not tell the difference from vanilla!

Sadly, I really have to agree with you on that. There's a lot of things about Arby's that were better, but that's another thread... :(

I haven't been as eager to jump on the Chipotle bandwagon as most others, mostly because of what I suspected that would happen all along is apparently becoming true......

They just opened their first shop in Germany so my son dragged me over. Two burritos, a serving of guac, and one bottle of mineral water was $35. Adios Chipotle.

That's just German pricing and is nowhere near what their pricing is here. The prices here are comparable to Qdoba or Moe's!

I don't blame you as that is really steep even if it is good fast corporate chow.
I wonder if you can shed some light on the difference between the U.S. & EU or German pricing.
There are various gov't subsidies involved on both continents. There's the VAT. Today it was reported in Louisville that someone running a restaurant was arrested for keeping multiple staffers prisoner in his home's basement and forcing them to work 12-hr days x 6 days a week (seriously). This guy found a way to cut labor costs even lower than the disgraceful level the restaurant industry in the U.S. is allowed.
What sort of hopefully less deplorable conditions of employment are mandated by law where you are? I am sure it ends up in less dining out but if customers who do elect to eat out pay more we can hope a higher chuck (even without tips that we know they don't do) go to actual working people.

I like their food. We usually get a couple burritos with chips and guacamole for around $16. Not a bad option for younger folks saddled with student loans and no pension IMHO.

The food is alright...but high prices, coupled with a bare-bones atmosphere, limit my dining frequency.

$6.50 for a burrito that can feed 1.5-2 people, made with fresh, mostly natural/organic ingredients, doesn't seem that high to me...

Chipotle is one of the few corporate fast-food operations that I will visit willingly, and it's mostly for these reasons. I've seen troubling reports, though, that popularity and expansion are pushing Chipotle to take more frequent advantage of its asterisk: "... we source organic and local produce when practical."

Without knowing the credibility of the source, this post on an anti-Chipotle site still sounds like an eyewitness report:

TYSON CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chipotle supported the documentary Food, Inc. big time, right? So all of the millions of people that watched it like I did (being a KM in training) saw that Tyson Chicken is crap chicken to those that praise Food With Integrity. So why the hell did I walk into my cooler and see 10 cases of Tyson Chicken staring me in the face? If someone can clarify that for me I would love to hear it.

That's only the last straw. Seeing Tyson Chicken in a Chipotle walk-in was what really made me lose my faith in everything Chipotle preaches. I feel like I've been in a cult for the past 3 years of my life and I finally had my eyes ripped back open.

I started working for Chipotle in 2007. ...
