Anybody know StarChefs.com Rising Stars ?

by Deb Hall » Tue Jan 14, 2014 10:51 am

All,
The Food Literacy Project has been approached about being the benefactor charity for this StarChefs Nashville-Louisville Gala at the Ali Center February 25th- I know Anthony Lamas is participating. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for exposure and a donation, but wanted to get input as I'm not familiar with these events. Has anybody attended one of these, or planning to go to this? Do alot of Chef's attend?- it's supposed to be an industry event along with a gala.

Thanks for any input-
Deb

What is the Rising Stars Revue?
The Rising Stars Revue is a walk-around tasting gala featuring the Rising Stars and their signature dishes, desserts, and drinks. Each Rising Stars Chef and Pastry Chef serves one dish (usually from their tasting with StarChefs.com), the Rising Star Mixologist serves cocktails, and the Rising Star Sommelier serves wine pairings that they have chosen for the chefs dishes and desserts. The Revue is open to the public, and features a Champagne and caviar reception for VIP guests, an awards ceremony, and a “Best Dish” contest sponsored by Jade Range (the winner wins a Jade plancha). Cocktail attire recommended.

Wow, that's kind of a big deal. I guess StarChefs is speading thier wings to other cities as most of the stuff I used to read about on the website wan NYC based.
I'll admit I haven't checked the page out in quite some time, but it is website geared more to the culinary professional. They have a big classified page for open postions nationwide. It's actually how I found out about the Talbott Tavern reopening and Executive Chef posititon when I was in Arizona.
I'm wondering who else they have on tap for this event?

Thanks, Dan. Do you mean a big deal for The Fodd Literacy Project, or for StarChefs to be doing a Louisville-centered event? ( I'm hoping you mean both :D )
I figured the restaurants participating might see it here and tell us here first if they are RisingStars.

It's a big deal that starchefs is even looking here...

They tend to focus their stuff on first (and occacionally) second tier food cities.

Louisville is clearly moving up the ladder.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

Ethan

Thanks- Good to know. Per their organizer ( and a brief mention on their website), the event is set for February 25th here in Louisville. Interested if anyone knows who the selected chefs are though- I find it interesting if it's a big deal that you guys haven't heard about this previously.

Talking to the organizer later this week- I'll let you all know what I find out. 8)

I'm pretty excited about hosting the "Chef Mentor" and "Honorees" Dinner on Monday Feb. 24th! The gala will be on Tuesday Feb. 25th at the Muhammad Ali Center and will recognize chefs under 40 as "Rising Star Chefs" and a few "Chef Mentors". The chefs will be from Ohio, Tenn., and KY. It's a pretty big deal that StarChefs came to town and is going to be featuring Louisville in it's own StarChefs Publication. They were very impressed and I'm proud of Louisville for making a huge impression!
