Palermo Viejo - outstanding dinner!

by Michele Janosek » Fri Jan 10, 2014 12:07 am

How is it that Palermo Viejo always flies under the radar of great places to go? Kudos to hubby for picking PV tonight for my birthday dinner. From the minute we walked in the door, it felt just like home. We ordered the cocida app -grilled asparagus, smoked provolone, portabella milanesa, garlic roasted tomato &sweet potato fries - Mike had the Palma Louca Pilsner & I had a delightful pinot grigio. The main event was subtle and truly the best steak I can recall eating in eons. The 6 oz. Lomo tenderloin was beyond tender and so very flavorful. The garlic fries were an indulgence I just had to have!!! Mike always gets the Parrillada De Bifes - chorizo, flank, ribeye & NY strip platter - he barely came up to breathe. Several times during dinner we were like - how does this place not hit every "MUST" list???? We wrapped up this divine meal with the house made banana ice cream - truly sublime with small chunks of fresh banana mixed in between ribbons of caramel. The meal hit every point of a perfect night. From the ambiance of the room, to our attentive and fun server, to the excellent meal, nothing was missed.

I love Palermo! We've never had anything less than stellar there. We always have the ribeye, and while I would love to try their other offerings, I just can't bring myself to order anything else. We'll actually be going there Saturday for my birthday and I'm already drooling over it.

My only complaint is that I live next door to them, and you can just imagine imagine how torturous it is to step outside at night- oh lord, especially in the summer!- and smell the meat and garlic, but not be able to eat it everyday.

We like Palermo Viejo an awful lot too! After cooking literally thousands of orders of sweetbreads during my tenure at Equus, I never thought I would like them again. But their grilled sweetbreads are a true revelation on how something so simple can be so good. I think they are one of Louisville best kept secret values as well, as the tariff is more than reasonable for what you are getting. :D

I love it too! I wish I could get away with reviewing it every year or so. Or every six months or so! Problem is since it just keeps on keeping on, I can't justify repeating the same great review every time. But I'll sure say out loud how much I agree with the other posts on this thread. Palermo is a keeper!

I too am a HUGE fan of PV....and is also tends to fly under the radar (damnit).....one of the great failings of living is such a wonderful city with the vast array of chef/restaurants as we have!

Cheers!

Palermo is one of my favorite places in town. Service is always spectacular. The Parillada de Bifes is the best "plate o' delicious meat" in town. So yummy. Always consistent. And the dulce de leche crepe with banana ice cream??!! I dream about that stuff. I don't think I've ever heard one bad word about the place. Definitely highly under recognized.
