Guy Fieri's looking for chef contestants

by Deb Hall » Thu Jan 09, 2014 5:02 pm

Calling all chef contestants for Guy’s Grocery Games show: Producers of Guy Fieri’s newest Food Network show, “Guy’s Grocery Games,” are looking for professional cooks and chefs to become contestants.

From the producers of “The Great Food Truck Race,” the show pits chefs and professional cooks against each other in a supermarket-themed showdown. The winner grabs $20,000, which while not as lucrative as a Charlie Strong contract, it’s still some swell change!

From Insider Louisville:
According to a news release, “To navigate the aisles of this high-pressure competition, you are going to need clever cooking solutions and supermarket savvy. From shopping on a budget to substituting out-of-stock ingredients, contestants will have to race against the clock to survive. If you are a cook, love to compete and think you have what it takes to be the last chef standing, then Guy Fieri is ready to put you to the test!”

We can only hope that passing the test doesn’t require bleach-tipping one’s hair, shoving copious amounts of food into one’s gob on camera or saying, “That’s money!” following every bite.

To apply, email the show’s producer at ggg@rtvshows.com and follow these directions.

Please put your CITY/STATE in the subject line of the email.
In the email we will need your NAME, PHONE NUMBER, your current title of OCCUPATION, a description of your CULINARY BACKGROUND, a recent PHOTO of you, a few PHOTOS OF DISHES you have created, AND why you think you have what it takes to win!

Sounds like a great opportunity for our own Dan Thomas to show what he's got! If he could handle the kids in the schools there should be a snap for him!

Thanks for the shout out Mark! I was actually considering applying for this for the heck of it. Even though I'm not in the professional kitchen everyday, I still cook a lot at home and have the occasional catering side gig that helps me keep semi sharp. However, I don't think my TV quotient is high enough to actually make it to the show. You never know though... :D

Certainly worth giving it a shot, you never know till you try and it looks like a lot more fun than any of the other competition cooking shows.

I got surprisingly far in the audition process for this back last summer, before Fieri was attached to the project. Now that I see it's his vehicle,I am relieved I didn't make the cut. This cat is an embarrassment to real chefs. Fieri couldn't hold a light to Dan Thomas.

That said, I say cheers to anyone who can tolerate the blowhard long enough to claim the prize. It sounded like a fun game. (I was told during my interview to expect things like making a gourmet dessert from a Twinkie)

Aw man, I've never worked in a kitchen, but I've done plenty of years doing IT for doctors, so I can deal with blowhards, I am a shoe-in for this!

edit:And the grand prize would buy me lots of interesting beers!
