So long to Kashmir, hi to Joy Luck Club

Chris Otts, a good journalist and a nice guy who worked for Gannett at the CJ for a while, seems to have found a home at WDRB-41. Funny how Channel 41 and WFPL, among others, are developing serious local news presence as the CJ fades ...

Chinese restaurant planned for old Kashmir building on Bardstown Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A Chinese restaurant called The Joy Luck is planned for the former Kashmir Indian Restaurant space in the Highlands.

"We are going to aim for authentic dishes not offered anywhere else in Louisville," said Alvin Lin of AJ Investment Group, the family company behind the planned restaurant.

AJ Investment filed paperwork with the Louisville Metro Revenue Commission on Nov. 26 to operate a full-service restaurant at 1285 Bardstown Road.

Which raises another question: Had it been previously reported that Kashmir was closed? It was long off my list of favorite Indian places, partly based on pretty credible reports of management server exploitation, which helps explain why I often thought the servers seemed sullen. But unless memory is failing me, I don't think I realized that it was gone.

They were clearly still around in August, but again, bringing out the sullen in customers, too ... ;)

I thought this new Chinese restaurant is opening (in true Louisville fashion) where Kashmir used to be?? And I thought that Kashmir still operated a few doors down, almost directly across from the light at the entrance of mid-city mall?? But, honestly we haven't been there in a LONG time so I could absolutely be mistaken.

New Kashmir is at 1277 Bardstown Rd, and still open, so far as I know...

Okay, that's the piece I slipped up on. They moved a few doors after their second fire. Sorry, never mind, don't look at the addled old guy chewing on his earmuffs.

Kashmir is our go-to when we want to eat outdoors on a nice summer evening before/after seeing a movie across the street.

Other than that, we go elsewhere when we want Indian food. Maybe we'll try Joy Luck Club, especially if they have seating on the patio out front.

La Strada? I'm drawing a blank, Gordon, but perhaps someone with an intact brain cell will remember.

La Strada was in a little house like that, and I'm almost sure that was the one. It was during my St. X days , circa 1986. A friend of mine who used to work there loved the lasagna, and it seems like they were very generous letting him take home stuff.
