Humorous reality aside....and on a semi-related note...Given we are in that time period where holiday travel and uncertain weather conditions are both a fact of life, I'm wondering how many people around here have enough foresight to carry an emergency kit in their cars ? Here is a good link listing items you should carry during the winter months:

That's only required if you travel outside the Waterson! For those city folks like Robin it's not required.

Is it me and my failing memory? It seems as a kid growing up we had bigger, more frequent snows and the "bread and milk" panic was never an issue. (I am down however with Gary's rum and TP. I mean, that's just common sense.)

I blame the local news. They've artificially turned us into Chicken Little City. Local weather men and women are so desperate for something to report and some shocking way to reel us into their "weather forecasting" and coverage that they jump upon the slightest hint of anything that's not a sunny sky (and even then "deadly heat wave! Make sure your children and elderly are safe!") and turn it into the most life threatening event in history. They have everyone jumping at weather shadows and rarely existent spectres of what could be serious weather events. And heaven forbid real weather does happen, like the tornado in Henryville, as it only fuels the fire and proves that their weather terrorism is justified.

We now cancel school and even holidays on the potential threat of weather that might come near our region. Ludicrous! I'm all for erring on the side of caution, but too much is enough!

In related news, cars on my street go too fast, kids' music these days is too loud, and stuff costs more than it used to!

If it makes you feel any better Ronnie, Louisville doesn't have an exclusive on this kind of reporting. This kind of weak-knee-candy-a** stuff is happening all over...and it goes much deeper than just a few wussies in the news media.

Go here and enjoy the real weather without all the hysteria from the typical weather terrorists, you might even learn some actual stuff about the weather also...

I spent 25 years working right along-side forecasters from the National Weather Service...They were then and they are now without a doubt the best weather professionals anywhere.

The difference is the national weather service forecasters are probably judged on how well they predict the weather, the weather forecast is for the television stations are judged by how many viewers and they have. Sensationalism will always get more viewers.
