Having a cake made. Bakery recommendation?

by StaceyBreckel » Tue Nov 19, 2013 4:29 pm

Can anyone suggest a bakery that can do either a really good strawberry or key lime cake with a drawn image of a dog and a message on it? My dog finished her master agility championship (MACH) this past weekend, and we are having her party at the next dog show. It is traditional to have a MACH party cake. Sure, kroger, walmart, and meijer bakeries could all make me a sheet cake, but I can't stand the sickly sweet white icing they traditionally use on those cakes. I'd like a mellower, fruit flavored icing that compliments the cake, and someone with some artistic ability given I am after a drawn image of the dog on the cake :D

Cake Flour in NuLu would probably be awesome, but any of the old-line Louisville bakeries like Plehn's in St. Matthews or Nord's in Germantown should be able to accommodate this order.

If you want the best scratch cake in Louisville I would call Susan at Cottage Cafe in Middletown. I have never ordered a cake with an image on it so I'm not sure but, she rocks on unique, orgasmic cakes and pies. I know Dave at Adrienne & Co in Jeffersonville will also meet your requirements.mYou can reach him 812 282.2665 or visit their website www.cakestoday.com.

Thanks for the suggestions :) I have looked up web sites and facebook pages, and several of these seem to have a lot of talent. I wouldn't have known about any of these bakeries without asking here.

Adrienne and Company in Jeffersonville makes amazing cakes. They're reasonably priced and taste as good or even better than they look!

I was also going to recommend Adrienne and Co but the main reason is my son Matt just started working for them as a baker about 3 weeks ago after his recent graduation from Sullivan. From what I have seen on their facebook page their cakes look awesome.

Hi Stacey!

We could definitely accommodate this at Sweet Surrender as well!

You COULD! I'm so sorry I didn't think about you, Jessica! I had just visited Cake Flour, and then my mind went straight from there to the old-line Louisville German family bakeries.

Ditto on this. They made a great tasting 007 cake for a kids party I went to recently. I normally pass on the cakes t these parties- can't stand the super sugary icing- but theirs was buttercream , and very good!

I don't know about sheet cakes from Sweet Surrender, but everything I've ever had from them is fantastic. Best dessert place in town in my book. :D

Very artistic and best pricing I've seen locally. Plenty of pictures on website under the Gallery heading.
