Anyone been to this BBQ place?

by Lonnie Turner » Sat Nov 16, 2013 12:47 am

The Winter 2013 edition of Food & Dining lists Gregg's BBQ Joint in New Albany. The address, 822 State St., sounded familiar and a quick check confirmed it's where the legendary, if itinerant, Pigasus had it's start about 2001. Don't get that way often but if anyone has a report that sounds promising I'd to make a point to try them next time over the river.

Unfortunately after about a year in business Gregg's didn't make it; they closed a month or two ago. They had some great Alabama style white sauce.

As Ryan said, they did not make it. I thought it was OK in quality, but it had a strange vibe to it. It was in an older house, just a little out of the way from downtown, probably just too far away to get noticed. I stumbled on it taking an alternate route home on night due to bad traffic on the interstate, and if I had not been stopped in traffic on State St, I would have missed it completely.

It's mayonnaise-based. It's not bad. I've only ever had it in Birmingham.
