Between basketball games Saturday, we wanted to stay downtown. Started at Down One. The bar was full as was the dining room. We didn't opt for the 'private' dining room or the outdoor seating. (Saw later that the 'private' dining room entrance was a phone booth. Reminded us of 'speakeasy' restaurant in Milwaukee.)
Headed down to Bristol and enjoyed our usual apps with local beers. Headed back to Down One. By this time, the restaurant was less busy, and we sat at the bar. The side where you can look up at the YUM.
We had a great local beer each and shared the pretzel loaf (Kraus) and beer cheese. Thought both were better than most we've had. Our bartendar as well as the rest of the staff were very pleasant and friendly. The outdoor dining is a great spot. Sorry we finally tried it so late in the season but there are heat lamps so maybe there will be opportunities again before spring.
It was so pleasant. Good food, beer, service. As it should be. (At another place on the other side of the YUM, last week, our bartendar spent most of the time talking to two associates, who were customers. Thankfully, they have a really good manager who took care of us as she talked. The couple next to us, at the bar, complained very loudly about the service when they were given the bill. Why do restaurants rely on the wrong people to be the face of their restaurants? Doesn't matter how good the chef is, if you have a female flirting with two guys half the time you are there.)
Back on track, we will return to Down One - tonight. We always go extra early during the week to beat the crowd.
