Limestone may be forced to move

by Gayle DeM » Mon Nov 11, 2013 10:52 pm

I haven't seen this mentioned: At last Friday's Lunch Lessons at Limestone, Chef Gerhardt mentioned that the strip mail in which Limestone is in receivership and that Limestone will continue in its current location through December. In the meantime, a new location is being sought for the restaurant.

Whoa! Mind if I change the headline, Gayle?

Also ... although it's a separate building, is not Guaca-Mole in that same center? I hope it's only the one building in trouble!

No, Guaca Mole is behind the McDonalds, on the other side of the hotel.

That even make things more confusing. By reading that advertisement it sounds like a building itself is for sale because they're listing a price per square foot. However Gayle's original post stated of the problems were being brought out because the entire plaza was in receivership. Sounds like there are multiple stories about this. Also, even if the plaza was in receivership (basically a predecessor to foreclosure/bankruptcy) you would think they would still want to keep tenants. It could be issued to see what develops here.

Okay, I'm in touch with Chef Jim Gerhardt, who says that things are "difficult" and they're "sailing stormy seas." He's working out what he can say, legally and prudently, and I'm inclined to respect that.

I'll pass along more as soon as I hear more from Jim.

New spot open in Norton Commons in a soon to be open building at very center of business district.

Worth checking out for a more upscale place given the explosive growth and demographics

Leases survive a transfer in ownership, including a foreclosure.

Most of the time a center sells (foreclosure or a normal transfer) and it barely affects the tenants. Just look down the street at The Forum... it sold at foreclosure and all tenants remained.

Westport Village was also sold this year to Inland out of Chicago, but things haven't skipped a beat as far as leases and maintenance go over here. I hope everything turns out well for Limestone, I just worked a private event with Chef Gerhardt, and Alan Salmon who owns Selenas last Thursday.

I had a long talk with Jim yesterday and I don't think he'd mind me mentioning it here. Indeed, there is no reason for a lease not to survive a bankruptcy, but this situation is untenable for him. He's been working in good faith with multiple property managers that have come and gone during the bankruptcy, as well as the new owner. So far it's just not working. But Jim's not a quitter, and has a nifty idea or two of what's next if it doesn't work out for Limestone to stay "as is." Stay tuned.

If there is any discourse with the restaurant lease, etc. it was NOT evident Saturday night. Hubby's company Holiday party was held at Limestone and let me say, for a service of around 50 people- it was SPOT ON!

Chef Gerhardt and his team did an excellent job. Everyone at our table loved the food and was happy with everything from the bread service to the dessert trio.

I always have reservations about a meal when served for that many at one seating and I would say they far exceeded my expectations. It's nice to know a local restaurant can do it right! I will return to any location and look forward to a birthday celebration there in February.

Lovely dinner last night at Limestone. Jim told me he'll be in the current location at least another year. Yea!
