The Irish Rover celebrates its 20th!

by Willie Myers » Thu Nov 07, 2013 10:56 am

With all of the comings & goings (openings & closings) of restaurants around town lately, it is perhaps worth noting one that's been pretty much a mainstay for the the past 20 years.

Speaking of The Irish Rover on Frankfort Ave. They're celebrating their anniversary by doing "price rollbacks" on some of their most notable products - - last Tuesday it was pints,
tonight (Thursday, the 7th) it's Irish whiskies (Jameson & Paddys) at 20 yr.-ago prices! I think there will be live music, as well.
Great opportunity to drop in and share a wee drop with Siobhan & Michael!

Love their restaurant , well worth the celebration. I hope they have 20 more!

i'll "Like" that and add that this amazes me, because the Rover had just opened when we moved back to town from NYC early in 1994. El Mundo was brand-new then, too. Where in the hell did 20 years go? This is still our "new" house!

I'm actually surprised it's only been twenty years, but I'm also surprised El Mundo has been around since then. I love both places!

A Scotch egg and a perfect Guinness from The Rover is a match made in heaven. :D

We also started this Website around the same time, Gordon, although we were the Iglou Dining Guide at first and added the HotBytes name and the forum a few years later. :)

We first went to the Rover when my kids were in their very early teens if that, they are now 28 and 30 and the whole family still loves it. Looking forward to taking the Grandkids.

When it comes to places for god beer, Irish Rover, BBC St Matthews and our Public House all have reached two decades. Next year the O'Shea's Baxter Ave location will be there, too. Rocky's is even older; it was the first place many of us got good beer on this side of the river. Time flies. Best wishes to Irish Rover and BBC, both celebrating twenty years.
