New television show “Back Home” on Fusion Network to feature Seviche Chef Anthony Lamas

From Oct. 1 through 5, chef Anthony Lamas of Seviche restaurant traveled through his mother’s homeland in Mexico filming an episode of “Back Home,” a new documentary television series produced by Diego Luna (“Milk,” “Y Tu Mamá También,” “Frida”) for Fusion Network. Lamas divided his time between Mexico City and Oaxaca, cooking with some of Mexico’s premier chefs during a culinary journey exploring indigenous ingredients and a variety of cooking techniques. The show will ultimately portray the connections between Mexican culinary culture and chef Lamas’ kitchen in Louisville, demonstrating a celebration of Latino heritage through food. The “Back Home” episode featuring Lamas is set to air on Sunday, Nov. 10.

In Mexico City, Lamas visited chefs Gerard Bellver and Mikel Alonso at Biko and chef Jorge Vallejo at Quintonil. Both restaurants are internationally renowned and are featured on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Biko is also recognized on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Lamas also enjoyed several limited small batch mezcals at La Clandestina and that experience inspired him to create mezcal tastings that will be coming soon to Seviche.

In Oaxaca, Lamas visited chef Alejandro Ruiz at Casa Oaxaca and chef José Manuel Baños Rodríguez at Pitiona, both of whom are included on Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list, and chef Oscar Carrizosa at Casa Crespo. He also worked in the kitchen with Abigail Mendoza, the owner of Tlamanalli in Teotitlán del Valle, a restaurant specializing in typical Zapotecan foods.

About “Back Home:”
From executive producer Diego Luna and Canana (“Milk,” “Y Tu Mamá También,” “Frida”), “Back Home” follows a different tastemaker each week on an epic and emotional voyage to their family’s country of origin. For some, it’s their first chance to set foot in the place their parents or grandparents were raised. For others, it’s a chance to make a long overdue return. Every episode is an intimate journey of self-discovery that sheds a light on the power of family, friends and our roots. “Back Home” will be featured on Fusion Network, a new collaboration between ABC and Univision that launches on Oct. 28.

Does anyone know if Time-Wrner cable will carry the Fusion channel?
