Boombozz ranked nation's 14th in indy pizza sales

Louisville's Boombozz pizza has ranked 14th in sales in the U.S. on Pizza Today magazine's "Hot 100 list," a ranking of America’s 100 largest independent pizza operations.

Among other regional players, Bloomington's Pizza X and Mother Bear's came in side-by-side at 51st and 52nd; Joe Bologna in Lexington ranked 80th and Goodfellas 82nd.

The survey results are based on sales as reported from the business' responses to a mailed survey. .
Pizza Today is a trade publication for the pizza industry, based in Louisville.

That's an interesting list. There are some places missing from the list mainly in Chicago and New York that I thought would have been there. I've been to several of the ones on the list that I question why they are there. Yes their name includes the word pizza but in reality they sell more of other types of food than they do pizza. I'm also kind of surprised that Wicks didn't make the list.

Mark, did you catch the part about they made the list by sending out a survey and asked for sales numbers, then ranked the results that they got back? I have no idea of the rigor of their survey instrument or the research-methodology knowledge that they brought to the task, but we are talking about Pizza Today here.

I did see that and after reading it began questioning how true the numbers really were. I'm sure many of the restaurants actually reported numbers with a sound basis to them but I'm sure others made in numbers look good for themselves. Answers some of the places that are missing from the list, I'm sure they just didn't bother filling out the survey which they probably had a good reason not to do. He would have however sought at least a couple of the big Chicago or New York restaurants would have been on the list, the Buffalo New York area was certainly well represented!
