Need suggestions: Restaurant for 175 person family event

by Rachel Goldenberg » Tue Oct 01, 2013 3:48 pm

I'm looking for suggestions of restaurants (or event spaces with good catering and a minimal rental fee) that could accommodate 150 to 175 adults on a Friday night in April 2014 for a family reunion dinner. Preferably less than $25 per person for a buffet with a couple options. They're all staying at a hotel on the East End so bonus points for spaces out there with easy access and parking. I'm not sure which places are willing to book the whole or most of a restaurant on a Friday night.

Any ideas?

I would suggest that you look into an event hall and get the buffet catered off site. I'm willing to bet that would run less then renting a restaurant on a Friday night. Maybe call the clifton center and north end cafe to do the buffet. I'm not familiar with options for the east end, but I'm sure people here will have suggestions!

Hi Rachel -

I know my company has hosted several events at UofL Shelby Campus - Hurstbourne & Shelbyville.

Room rental rates start at $500 & you can use their caterer or bring in any licensed one of your choosing.

Good luck!

You might want to check out the historic Peterson-Dumesnil House in Crescent Hill. Rental rates are very competitive and the setting is beautiful. There is plenty of on-site parking. Bristol is the exclusive caterer.

I'm with Nora- it's going to be pricey to get a restaurant to give you their whole Friday night. A catering space is a better option and you have no rushed time limit.
That said, I'd check:
Captain's Quarters- they can handle large crowds and the grounds are a bonus for families with antsy kids.

For catering spaces on the East End-( I don't know capacities on any of these):
Shall we Dance in Anchorage
Holiday Inn- East at Hurstbourne
Other East End hotels without restaurants ( Hampton, Hilton Garden Inn)

Michele's Shelbyville campus idea is a great option!
Also, churches:
The Presbyterian church in Indian Hills on Brownsboro Road
Springdale Presbyterian church on 22

Have you looked into the Sawyer-Hayes house at Tom Sawyer Park? It seems up to about 200 people and is out of the area you are looking for a location in. You would have to find a caterer but this site can certainly provide many suggestions for that.

Would The Ormsby work? They are Masterson's and I did a dinner for 200 for very little a few years ago. Don't recall if there is a charge for the room.

One of my favorite spaces to cater at! Absolutely beautiful!
PM me for a catering proposal. I can work with in your budget, but I need the exact date as I already have a wedding booked in April.
