BURGER ALERT!

by Susanne Smith » Sun Sep 29, 2013 1:34 pm

Okay guys. Which burger in town beat out 34 other restaurants in Louisville, including Milk Wood, Mussel and Burger Bar, Jack Fry's, etc. to reach the Top Four best burgers in Louisville Mag. You guessed it, SHADY LANE!! And we don't even advertise with them! Susi and I are honored and vindicated, and we have quite a few of you to thank as well. Including you Robin, for getting us started so long ago with your wonderful review. THANKS. Bill & Susi Smith

Bill,
I've been on record for years as saying you guys serve the best burger in town...in a word, it is AWESOME.

BTW, sorry for not stopping in lately but with my new work gig I don't get down in the neighborhood too often during your lunch time. Will make a point to stop down soon to say "hi" and enjoy one of those burgers.

Where are you? What days and times are you open? And what is your best burger?

Sorry to say I have never had a burger from Shady Lane  (too many other yummies to have.) what do you attribute their "nomability" to?

Not sure if it's online yet since I couldn't find it but he went to 38 places. He only ranked the top 10.

1.) Game
2.) Harvest
3.) Holy Grale
4.) Shady Lane Cafe
5.) Grind (yay!)
6.) Mussel and Burger Bar
7.) Burger Boy
8.) Bunz Burgerz
9.) Eiderdown
10.) Jack Fry's

The other places were W.W. Cousins, Four Pegs, Bluegrass Burgers, Ollie's, Granville Inn, Sidebar, Bristol, Silver Dollar, O'Shea's, Dish, Irish Rover, Flanagan's, Bambi Bar, Mayan Cafe, J Graham's Cafe, The Exchange, Dizzy Whizz, D. Nalley's, Jack's Lounge, Monkey Wrench, Shiraz, Reslish, Bourbon's Bistro, Jerry's J-Boy, Frontier Diner, Rubbie's, Milkwood, Home Run Burgers.

Bottom line, we've got a lot of good burgers in L'ville....To possibly answer Carla's question, Shady Lane's burger is a no-nonsense-hold-the-goofy-stuff-down-to-earth Burger. It's hand formed and cooked the old fashioned way on Bill's well seasoned flat top. Dressed to your specifications, for we older folks, it's the kind of burger we grew up with. Just one of the many really-really good things coming out of Shady Lane.

Doug, Shady Lane is in the Brownsboro Center shopping plaza at the confluence of Brownsboro Rd, Rudy Lane and the Watterson Expressway - same shopping center as Party Mart.

Burger Boy is a diner/restaurant who have gone through a gentrification of sorts in the last few years. 1450 S. Brook @ Burnett Avenue, in Old Louisville, getting close to Germantown.

It is a subjective list people! On any given day any of the places listed could be the "Best". It's kind of like some one asking which one of your children you like the most! Don't read too much into it. :x
I will pile on the Shady Lane bandwagon though! Bill knows his way around a flattop grill and the burnt crusty edges of steamed cheese really set that burger apart from the rest. Definitely in my top three in the city! 8)
