Catering Recommendations

by Jackie R. » Sun Sep 15, 2013 6:46 pm

Hey everybody! My niece is getting married early next Spring, and she lives in Lexington, but they are getting married at The Palace here in Louisville (just because they love the Louisville scene). She has chosen to have her dessert table done by Cake Flour because she recalled the box of pastries I brought her a while back, and she's asked me for advice on caterers. From what I understand, this venue doesn't have restrictions, or an "Approved List" of caterers. I don't have a lot of experience with catering and she and her fiance have great palates, so I was hoping to get a little advice from the forum.

Thanks in advance!

They definitely need to talk to Lady Fingers! They will do a sampling for the couple.

Dan Thomas would be the first person I'd call...He's the man when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Ladyfingers is a good choice. They have catered many of the events for the company I work for and the food has been very good. I agree with Steve as well - check with Dan Thomas.

Dan was the first person I thought of! But did he not say recently that he was scaling back on catering services to focus more on other things? Dan is the Super-Greatest-Man.

And for what it's worth, I was also wondering if there are successes people have had with restaurants that offer catering. It seems to me that there are a lot of restaurants these days that advertise catering, but I worry that it's a gamble to go with a company that doesn't do catering exclusively. Are there many restaurants that are fully capable of catering a reception for 200?

Jackie- Dean does catering jobs all the time- last night they did one for 500 I believe.
Also, if they are going to be at the Palace have you thought about Theater Square? So very convenient.

Jackie,
In addition to Dean and Dallas, I 'd check with Anoosh Shariat. As of a couple of years ago ( I haven't checked lately), he was doing catering here in town - mostly by word- of- mouth. We recommended him to friends for their wedding reception to friends and they were thrilled. I've worked with him for corporate catering, and they were a pleasure to work with and surprisingly reasonable.

Does the lucky couple have a favorite place in Louisville? Many of the local restaurants will also cater parties as well. Wiltshire and Mayan Cafe both come to mind.

We used Wiltshire Pantry for our wedding reception. People still talk about the food. In addition to the quality of the food, Sue H. and the Wiltshire staff were just plain helpful in general. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Susan and Wiltshire Pantry are the best of the best. They catered our wedding reception. Best food, best staff. Mayan Cafe did an awesome job on our rehearsal dinner. I highly recommend both.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations! I have forwarded a link to this page for the pretty girl to review. I forgot about Wiltshire, and I've definitely always heard great things about their catering services. I appreciate Yáll!!!

I like Wiltshire's catering. They handled our fundraiser for Kentucky Waterways Alliance this past fall and the food was amazing.

I would also suggest Coby Ming at Harvest. She did a fundraiser for Kentuckian's For the Commonwealth that was out of this world!
