First off, just returned from Porktoberfest and have to tell you all that it was wonderful!! The food - all 11 samples that I had - was *really* well done (no pun intended) and fairly priced. Hog Operation sounded great and - thank to great weather - all seemed to be having a great time. Fair play to whoever organised it, hope you'll do it again. (maybe add a few more picnic tables, though...)

But there was one *really* weird glitch...

As linked above, the CJ did a piece a couple of days ago about the impending fest. Early on in their article, they mentioned some of the participating restaurants and what they'd be offering.
First one mentioned was The Bristol and they wrote about the "curry pork pan sliders" that they would be offering.
Now myself, having spent a good bit of time in Bavaria, am well acquainted with the German treat, "Currywurst" - - an immaculate grilled German sausage in a curry sauce. So, when I saw the mention of the words "curry" & "pork" in the same sentence, I'm thinking that would be my first stop at the fest.

Got in , picked up my tix, and headed straight for Bristol's booth. Rushed up to them with great anticipation, "I'd like to try the Curry Pork Pan Slider".....
*massive* quizzical looks on all of their faces!?
*NO*one in their booth had any idea what I was talking about and, when I told them about the mention in CJ, they *really* didn't know what I was talking about!
major dissapointment...
What they had was delicious, but it wasn't a curry & pork delicacy...

Anyway, don't know who screwed up - CJ or Bristol. But goes to show that ya can't believe everything you read in print (or online, for that matter!!)

Otherwise, *loved* the event!!

Just got back myself.

Great event with awesome food.

Lines were borderline, especially the beer line.

Asian ribs at the Wiltshire booth got my vote, but I only tasted about 40% of the total offerings.

I went as well but didn't vote on the ballot as I had samples from only four booths and it didn't seem fair. Probably would have had all of them but in middle age you have to pick your battles and this weekend mine is going to be at the Phoenix Hill Chili Cook-Off on Sunday.
Part of the culling process was to skip booths set up by restaurants I'd eaten at, which turned out to be all of them if I recall correctly. So of the four I had I liked Atria's pork tacos best. They also had a free (i.e., no tickets required) paper cone of pork fat popcorn that I tried. OMG. If they served that in theaters I might sit through "Gigli" or "The Postman" to eat it. It also made me thirsty enough to hasten the already planned trip to the Apocalypse truck. Had the Butchertown Brown created for the occasion. I hope next year it isn't on the same day as the Caufield's Halloween Parade, though.
Hope this develops into a tradition of Butchertown events bringing people down there as much as happy hour at Butchertown Pub did in the '80s.

I agree, I loved this event!

Everyone's stuff was so good, and the crowd was really cool. I don't mind lines, I was busy chatting and drinking.

Didn't vote, I had to much product in the hands of too many chefs to not be bias. But thought that the outcome of the judging was awesome.

Just FYI the Courier has to be to blame cause I don't recall Chef Lynch mentioning such a dish in the build up to Porktober.
