Donations Needed for Chef Who Experienced House Fire

One of Sullivan University’s chef instructors, Eugene Bell, recently lost his home and all contents to a house fire. His wife, four children and two vehicles are safe.

The entire family, consisting of three children under the age of four and a teenage boy, has been living in a hotel room for two weeks. They will be moving into a vacant home this weekend and are in need of some items listed below. If you are able to donate any of the items, please bring them to the west campus (enter through the back door) between 8am and noon. You may leave them in the open area by the bakery storeroom, and faculty and staff members will handle the transportation of the items to Eugene’s temporary home.

Thank you for showing your kindness and compassion for one of our fellow educators and his family.

With gratitude,

Keith Lerme, Dean of the National Center for Hospitality Studies

Robin, why don't you post this to the LHB Facebook page so we can more easily share it through that medium?

Lois, I don't really use that page, I just set it up way back when before I knew what Facebook was. :D

But I did post a link to this discussion from Facebook, and you could share it!

From another thread that most of the non golfers probably didn't read

Re: 2013 ACF KY Chapter Culinary Cup Golf Scramble Sept. 9th

We still have some room for more golfers!
For those of you on the fence, in addition to our Scholarship Fund which we have raised over $5,000 for in the past two years, a portion of this years proceeds will now be earmarked for Chef Eugene Bell and his family, whose home suffered a pretty catastrophic fire earlier this week. For those of you who don't know him, Chef Bell is a Culinary Instructor at Sullivan University and is the ACF KY Chapter Chairman of the Board/Past President. He has been instrumental in coordinating student volunteers for many of the charity and Chef & Child events I've been involved with. Needless to say that Chef Bell and his family will be displaced for several months while they restore his home and they lost most of their personal items as well.
With this in mind, I'm still looking for donations of gift cards/certificates from local restaurants and businesses for the raffle. No donation is considered too small. Please consider helping us out with this worthy cause! Please contact me and I can arrange pick-up of any donations.

Is there such a thing as a registry for this sort of thing at a dept store? Like a wedding registry? That way people who want to help won't buy things that are no longer needed?
I'm sure that many people would be happy to help in this way- I know I would.

Anyone know if it's possible to donate items from the list after this Saturday? Thanks.

I couldn't find anything that said donations had to be in by Saturday, so I wouldn't let that stop you. Building likely will be closed and locked on Sundays, other days okay until noon.

For those not familiar with Sullivan facilities lingo, "west campus" is the building The Bakery is in, across the street from main campus. Go around back, the entrance they are referring to is around the side of the dry cleaner next door.

I've done these kind of collections before and unfortunately you tend to get a lot (too much) of certain things and none of others. I' m sure cash would be greatly appreciated to fill in the holes.

Marsha, any chance you've heard anything about them setting up a cash donation account at a local bank?

Deb, I'm told that Apron knows about this situation and is sympathetic.

Just wanted to share that all the winning teams and individuals at yesterday's ACF KY Culinary Cup Golf Scramble donated all of their cash prizes back to the chapter to donate to Chef Bell and his family! Thanks so much for your donations! I still get surprised at the generosity of the people in our community to help those in need. :D
