Cunningham's on the River

by John T » Sat Aug 31, 2013 12:21 am

Tried to have dinner there tonite. My wife and I called about dinner hours and were told the kitchen was opened until 11.We arrived at 10. We sat at the bar, seeing that they were cleaning all the tables in the restaurant, which were all empty. The bartender was very accomadating, took our order, and then that's when it got interesting. After our food was served, the busser decided to sweep all around us, while slamming chairs. He really wanted us gone!! When my wife confronted him, he replied,"you came in past closing time, and we want to clean up and get out of here". If a restaurant advertises 11:00, then serve till then, especially if you call ahead to make sure everything is cool!! This was the worst treatment I have ever suffered in a restaurant. And I even paid for it with tip after only eating barely a 1/3rd. The sad part is I've been patronizing Cunningham"s for over 40 years!!!! When I later called and spoke with a female manager to explain what happened, a young man got on the phone and started berating me. This is not the way to talk to customers. Take note management.

I'm going to have to say this: I think Cunningham's was once a great Louisville experience, but things went downhill when the opened the new downtown place after the old one burned; and except for the am-bee-yance, the Harrods Creek operation has never whelmed me for quality or service.

I've never seen it as bad as you describe, though.

You guy's talking about Cunningham's Creekside on River Road? Or is this a second or different location?
I eat, therefore I am.

I definitely am, Doug, and I assume John is, too. I don't know of any other location.

This reminds me of a bad experience we had at Bourbon's Bistro several years ago, except this was at the beginning of the shift and not at closing time. We arrived at 4:00 when the doors opened. My friend and I just wanted to have a drink at the bar. The entire time we were there: 1) the presumed owner and his children were running all over the place, 2) an employee was vacuuming the floor right in front of us, 3) the bartender was filling up the ice bins and ignoring us, 4) another employee was doing general cleaning, etc. etc. We didn't stay long obviously and I haven't been back. My point, if an establishment says they open at 4:00, they should be ready to serve at 4:00.
