Rover on over to LaGrange before August 31!!!

by Ed Vermillion » Thu Aug 22, 2013 7:53 am

Catastrophic news for lovers of Irish Rover, Too in LaGrange!!!! This quote is taken directly from the Irish Rover, Too Facebook page:

"Irish Rover Too
Yes, it's true. The buildings are being sold, and Irish Rover, Too is closing:-( Last day is Saturday, August 31, so come see us before then for your Scotch Eggs and Fish & Chips!"

This news is very sad for Rover fans. The LaGrange branch has been our go to spot since they opened the doors.

They had a good run there. I have heard that another restaurant will open in that spot. Crossing fingers it will be good.

Well doesn't THIS just suck. I was never a huge fan of the place myself but my wife and many of our friends and family loved the place...Sad to see them go, if for no other reason than I could usually get a nice frosty Two Hearted Ale on tap.

As for the building...My wife's office is a block away and "word on the street" is that the owner of the building received "an offer he couldn't refuse" and that there is a "steakhouse" going in.

In other "Foodie" news from the hinterlands...

El Acapulco went through something of a change in ownership (it's complicated - I'm told) and Gustavo left and went to his other restaurant in Crestwood (Gustavo's)...taking most of his hired help with him. I'm told the food at El Acapulco has taken a nose dive and that all the cool kids now go to Gustavo's in Crestwood.

One-Nineteen-West-Main continues to churn out "New Southern Cuisine" to mixed reviews. Either ya loves 'em or ya hates 'em....doesn't seem to be much in-between. I will say the service has certainly improved in the past year, but then again it's not hard to show improvement in service when you start with "zero".

Frascelli's in beautiful downtown Buckner seems to be doing OK...Still serving up some great sammies and some pretty good N.Y. style pie but that said I'm having trouble wrapping my arms around the place.. It's a TOTALLY different breed of cat than their previous incarnations in Crestwood and out on Murphy Lane. Now you order "deli-style" at the counter and if you're lucky and they aren't busy they'll bring it to your table...otherwise ya waits around and picks up your order. NO BOOZE and closed on Saturday and Sunday (???)

Steve-Oh's continues to serve up some modestly good pizza, sammies and Italian fare...and business seems good, despite their new competition from Frascelli's. Great little place that manages to embrace the "family friendly" concept without running off their adult customers...Johhny Brusco's could take a lesson.

Traderbakers - No it (wasn't) a restaurant BUT it's gone and in it's place they are supposed to be putting a bowling alley...which I assume will have -some- kind of bowling alley food. The movie theaters are also closed and the Long John Silvers and KFC are slated for demolition....Not sure if the entire plaza is being gutted (taking El Nopal with it)...Seems kind of a "hush-hush" kinda deal which in LaGrange-speak often means a current or former political entity (or other "connected" individual) is involved and stands to make a sh**-pot full of money.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, we are closing Irish Rover, Too, and word on the street is pretty much correct. We got a serious offer for the two buildings and decided, after 9+ years, that it was time to get our lives back.

Rest assured, you will still be able to get your favorites at The Irish Rover on Frankfort Avenue...in fact, we are making plans for our 20th anniversary celebration in November.

Thanks, again, to all who have enjoyed Irish Rover, Too. We will miss you.

Congratulations for breaking out. Nine years is a haul.
