Any NEW (last six months) places I have to try?

by Trisha W » Mon Aug 19, 2013 10:38 am

I haven't heard anything great and wonderful for a bit. We've done Havana Rumba Tapas more than once (both due to the prices and the our favorite bartender/waittress). Anything else out in the last 6 months that is so good I need to make a trip? I'm finally in the stage of my pregnancy where I can eat pretty much what I want again.

Has anyone mentioned MilkWood? Basement of Actors Theatre, run by the 610 Magnolia folks but a lot more casual and less expensive. It's more than just a place to grab a quick bite before the theater now.

We enjoyed Manny & Merle recently - nice NuLu setting, sort of a clone of Silver Dollar, only smaller and with a shorter menu, but the Cali-Mex-country bill of fare was good.

Have you been to The Muscle and Burger Bar? If not you definitely need to plan on going there. It's another restaurant by Fernando was involved with Havana Rumba, Mojito's and Guaca Mole previously.

Trisha,
If you are eating hamburgers and have been to Mussel Burger already, check out Sidebar. Their burgers and zucchini fries are really good-as are their cocktails ( which doesn't do you much good  )

Not to put a really fine point on that, but Manny & Merle is not close to NuLu... it is a nice NuLu "like" setting, but the 100 block of West Main St is NOT NuLu of East Market. However, I really do like that place.

And we had a nice dinner this evening at a new place for our weekly Monday evening dinner out. Asian Pot on Fern Valley. Sushi, Hibachi DINNERS and other asian food. They have a selection of sushi rolls that you can get three for 9.95 or two for 6.95. We got three and they were all good, altho smaller in girth than what you would find at Wasabya. We did it small plate with both goyza and pan fried dumplins. They also have a lunch special for 5.55 including the entree, fried or white rice, soup or soda. I called it blue collar oriental. Step above Double Dragon, a stair way above the oriental buffets, but not up to Peking Bistro or such. Good enough it is now a part of our regular rotation of places on Monday evening.

Well, six months or so. I think all these have opened this year and we've been:
Dragon King's Daughter in New Albany - the menu has a lineage to the original but it's not a clone & the facility is much different, more spacious with a huge bar.
Little Jerusalem has reopened at Iroquois Manor with their same consistently fine Mediterranean chow, not much for atmosphere except the friendly staff, good for carry out especially.
Cafe 27 in New Albany is a pleasant place to spend an hour or two, good menu & service was notable.
Earth Friends Cafe is a good spot for a healthy lunch in the NuLu area, where Melilo's & Bodega at Felice were.
Game needs no additional publicity, it's opened in the last six months & is pretty unique.
Four Sisters on Frankfort is probably my #1 pick for new for 2013, sweet & savory crepes, sandwiches, coffees, teas, peaceful atmosphere & charming staff.

I agree! We went recently (see HotBytes review) and I was smitten by all of those things.

I'm not 100% sure if this falls in the 6-month window, but Wiltshire Pantry is really fantastic. Their club sandwich is stellar, and their sweet rolls and biscuit sandwiches are basically perfect. I was initially sad when Joe Davola's was replaced by a more expensive place, but I haven't had a thing at Wiltshire Pantry that wasn't A-grade quality-wise. Strongly recommend for their breads, as well as their breakfasts and lunches.
