Lou Lou does indeed do a good one. I expect the calzones at Coals and at DiOrio's are excellent as their pizza, but I can't testify because I rarely get the calzone at a place that has the pizza. 8)

Clifton's Pizza is my go to for calzones.

Clifton's... but ask for it well-done (they're so big and overstuffed that sometimes they're not hot in the center if not well-done).

I didn't realize that Coals had started doing a calzone. They've been talking about it ever since they opened but I hadn't seen one there yet, will have to stop down and try one.

Another place it makes a pretty good calzone is Puccini Smile in the Shelbyville Road plaza.

Wait! I don't know that they do. I just assumed they did or thought I remembered it on the menu. As I said, I don't see much point in a calzone when I can have a pizza. 8)

Now, I don't go around looking for the best calzone, so please don't consider this an expert opinion....

Cafe Lou Lou's has the best calzone that has every crossed my lips!

There is a proviso however. At some point during the past several years, they decided to include the marinara sauce inside.

This state of affairs does not suit me. So, I always ask that they don't do that for mine and just let me have it on the side, as should be done for all civilized calzones. 8)

Oh yeah! If you go on Wednesday, you can also enjoy half price wine!

David Gavi makes an excellent calzone. And no sauce inside! :-)

I've always loved the hawaiian calzone at Tuscany; it's huge and super cheesy

Love the Meatball Calzone at LouLou...

...but surprisingly, even to myself, my favorite Calzone in Louisville also comes from Tuscany. I usually go w/ the Mexican.

No calzones at Coals, just checked the menu, maybe that oven gets too hot to make a good calzone

I dont' think it's on the menu all the time, but the best calzone I've ever had in Louisville is at Come Back Inn.

I am shocked that no one has mentioned Za's Pizza on Bardstown Road! They are by far my favorite, maybe anywhere. I really miss the days when I used to live in their delivery zone. They even make them with their whole wheat crust., which I learned I preferred over their normal crust hands down (and I am not normally a whole wheat crust kinda girl).
