Cheapest Place for Kegs

by Alison Hanover » Fri Aug 09, 2013 12:06 pm

Where is the CHEAPEST place to buy two kegs of water, oh sorry, I mean Bud or Miller lol. The cheapest I have found is Bridge Liquors in New Albany which quoted me $96 plus $100 deposit. Everywhere else seems to want $110. I am now paying for Alex's 21st all by myself so every penny counts. I am now doing the catering myself too, so sorry Dan and Ronnie.

The Liquor Barn is the cheapest place I've found....Never bought Bud, etc so I can't quote you a price. $30 deposit on a keg...at least that's what I pay.

Todd's price is going to be about as good as you can get. In ky the normal wholesale price for bud 1/2bbls is over 95. Liquor barn buys by the semi load and gets a bit better deal but not more than a few dollars.

Just throwing this out there, if 5 or 10 bucks is a deal breaker, ever consider not throwing a 21st bday party for him? Let him go to a bar and have his buddies buy him drinks?

The answer is Liquor Barn. In Jefferson Co, the Miller/Coors distributor does a quantity discount on 100 1/2bbls. I'm pretty sure you can buy one from them cheaper than a bar or restaurant can. But you have to rent the extra equipment.

I found a place on 150 that does them for $99.99 ok $100 and they only charge $40 deposit or take a copy of your card and don't even run it. Yes, $30 does matter when this party is going to cost $1500 because the person who was going to do it with me for her son too has backed out and not even told me!! Cest La Vie, at least I have five weeks to come up with the extra money. Still trying to get abetter deal on tent, tables, chairs and dance floor because the son of the owner is coming to the party!! DJ is $250, it all adds up. What I can save on the kegs will buy the potato salad and coleslaw so it is all good. Plus I don';t think 50 kids could go to a bar all together. Along with my friends it is going to be 80 - 100 people.

If you are looking to do domestic beer, you might be better served to just get cases of canned beer. With deposits, it actually is a bit cheaper to go that route than to deal with kegs. There is some mystique in serving draft beer, but its the same stuff in a keg as in the can/bottle. It really just depends on how much you are looking to get. If you want a bit more variety, then look at cans/bottles, if you are focusing on one beer, go for a keg.

I'd also check that $40 deposit to see if it includes the tap. I know we charge a $100 deposit that is refunded once everything comes back to cover the costs of the keg deposit, the tub, and most importantly, the tap. For us, its the most expensive part of the equation. If you are just getting a keg, its only $40.

Agreed. Keg deposits are $30. No way to get around them.

Add a tap and its at least $50 more. Those are refundable when you return them.

Keg beer is not any cheaper than 30 packs of cans. In KY, they are 19.99 for bud/miller/coors. That is 150 beers for $100. No deposits. You won't get more than a beer or two more with a keg when you consider foam and waste.

Plus if they don't drink it all, you still have a drinkable product the next day.

We have people return kegs all the time that are half full. Unless you have it on co2, it will go flat in a day or less once you have tapped it.
