If you are looking to do domestic beer, you might be better served to just get cases of canned beer. With deposits, it actually is a bit cheaper to go that route than to deal with kegs. There is some mystique in serving draft beer, but its the same stuff in a keg as in the can/bottle. It really just depends on how much you are looking to get. If you want a bit more variety, then look at cans/bottles, if you are focusing on one beer, go for a keg.
I'd also check that $40 deposit to see if it includes the tap. I know we charge a $100 deposit that is refunded once everything comes back to cover the costs of the keg deposit, the tub, and most importantly, the tap. For us, its the most expensive part of the equation. If you are just getting a keg, its only $40.
