Lovely birthday lunch at Lilly's

by Ellen P » Sun Jul 28, 2013 5:12 pm

This past Saturday. First time in years. First time for my husband and daughter. I was the birthday girl so I selected the prix fixe(?), shrimp/corn cakes/chipotle sauce; tomatoes, brie, bacon, open face; rum cake. My daughter had a chicken salad that was 'deconstructed'(?), even had pimento cheese, black olives. My husband had fish and chips. We also had molten chocolate - chocolate gelato and lemon icebox pie. Actually saved some of our entrees to go since we never eat dessert at a restaurant - calories, money, plus too many courses to be comfortable.
We will go back for lunch.
Also, stopped in Tin Roof, first time in the early evening. Pretty dead, but sat next to open windows by street. Had Southern Tier - that might have been the best beer available. Shared Guac and 2 sandwiches. Everything was good and our server was very good, nice, attentive, smiling.
After Lilly's we walked NuLu social. Good event. My daughter purchased items but we didn't eat since we were stuffed. The stroll was good for post meal exercise.
Huge crowds downtown during the day. We swung by SoFo, but weren't drawn to stop. Saw two wedding parties - Brown and Christ Church Cathedral, but missed Peyton's wedding party:-)
With fandom fest (?) going on too, there were some strange sites. People who are afraid of clowns - I'm not a fan - would have been glad to be safe in a car - clowns with bloody faces.
Our daughter lives in Irish Hill and she had never been to the Beer Store. Showed her the out door area out back. She does frequent Apocalypse now that her parents introduced her:-)

Thank you, Robin.
Forget to mention, our older and her husband took us over to Indiana for a early (Hoosier) birthday celebration. We went to Bank Street, younger daughter had never been, then on to Feast BBQ, which they love. (Good time was had by all at both places. Almost hated to leave Bank Street.) My husband had the pork, I splurged with ribs - taking half home, even sharing some. (BBQ is very rich.) Extremely meaty. I don't eat much meat, but have always loved some form of BBQ except mutton. Will try the beef brisket next time.
