Nominee for the Best Dish of the Year

by Madeline Peters » Sat Jul 27, 2013 10:25 am

We are only halfway through 2013 but I am giving my vote to Guacamole. I don't know the name of the dish but it will be at the restaurant for only a short time. Per Chef Fernando this recipe was created by nuns in Mexico. Very similar to a chili relleno, the roasted poblano pepper is stuffed with a flavorful picadillo surrounded by a sauce of whipped walnut and cream sprinkled with pomegranates. Sounds weird, but trust me, it's to die for. Fernando, if I messed up the description please feel free to correct me.

I wonder if I can make a pizza using picadillo, pomegranate and walnut "ala panna"!

I vote for the short rib nachos at Burgers and Mussels. Out of this world.

That's what came to mind for me as soon as I saw the title of this thread.

Chef John Varanese presented this dish to Colleen and I while we were dining there celebrating her birthday. It's not on the menu and something that I think he brought out to the table as a professional courtesy, one chef to another
It was a Squid Ink Rigatoni with Black Truffles, Lobster and really, really rich cream sauce that I forgot what the base of it was, gratinied and topped with Caviar. The single best thing I've eaten in years :D

I'm not a big sweet eater, but the Panna Cotta at Volare is for me the Best Dish of the Year, hands down!
