LEX: El Gran Tako / taqueria & torteria

by Joel F » Wed Jul 24, 2013 7:08 pm

I drove by it twice today and instead of following my instincts wound up eating mediocre Thai food. phooey!

reviews look very good. comments say they accommodate vegetarians you just need to ask.

and here's a quote from the comments on a "best of page"

I have to repeatedly endorse your love of El Rancho Tapatio in Lexington, KY. It's almost a hidden gem, along with El Gran Tako (or Gran Tako) and Maria's Kitchen (the latter of which has arguably the best tacos in Lex).

It's a good spot! You may also want to check out Tortilleria Y Taqueria Ramirez .

Maria's Kitchen has the best authentic Mexican food in all of Kentucky.

I'll have to check out El Gran Tako and Maria's, but we like El Rancho Tapatio a lot because it features sort of a dual-purpose menu: lingua tacos and other "authentic" delights for my wife and I, but also enchilada combo platters, burritos, etc, for the less adventurous people in your party. The authentic items are just as good as what you would find in a typical taqueria, but the atmosphere in El Rancho is much more "gringo" friendly and sit-down oriented than a taqueria. And they have a liquor license!
