What's your favorite sushi restaurant?

by Mari B » Tue Jul 23, 2013 5:50 pm

I used to go to Oishii Sushi very frequently. Unfortunately, this past time (100+ Tab for takeout...) they completely messed up my order. Which is fine, it happens. When I called to let the owner know, (I truly believe its important to let owners know when a problem arises, so they know whats going on.) he argued with me that the order was indeed correct, because thats how the hostess wrote it down. I was *very* taken aback that he didn't handle it more appropriately. I didn't even want my money back! (I drove an hour away to get my favorite carry out :( I didn't have any plans to go and return it...) All I got was a "Sorry?? thats how its written, you ordered it incorrectly then...." very non chalant, not our problem type of response. I was actually pretty hurt since its my favorite place! The least I expected was a sincere apology, especially since I go there very often. So anyways, now I'm sadly looking for a new place. What's your favorite sushi place? This heartbroken sushi lover needs a new spot! :

My go-to place for sushi is Kailana in Fern Creek. I've tried quite a bit of the menu, and I usually come away with a new favorite every time. Their rolls are HUGE, so it makes it difficult to eat a slice in one bite, but it's certainly good value for the money. The staff is also very friendly and attentive.

Tokyo on Lime Kiln is a smaller but high-quality contender, and if I'm not mistaken, it's one of the few around that's owned and operated by a Japanese family.

+1 for Tokyo.

They are very friendly, the food is great and while they have a wide selection of rolls, they don't get too crazy and huge that you cannot eat them with chopsticks.

The tuna poki is a must have there.

Cheers,

Doug

Is it the best, I don't know. But I must agree with Terri that the rolls are huge and on very good quality.....must try!

;-)

Using chopsticks to eat sushi? Wrong, wrong, wrong, says Trevor Corson, the author of “The Story of Sushi” (originally published as “The Zen of Fish,” Harper Perennial, 2008).

Hiko-a-mon. Hiko is the only Japanese native and trained sushi chef in Louisville as far as I know! Great stuff!

Dragon Kings Daughter has some great sushi, and the New Albany location has some items that might be familiar to fans of Maido.

They definitely seem to do more original stuff versus all the other places in town.
