Oriental House changes lunch

by Kris Billiter » Mon Jul 22, 2013 1:58 pm

Had a lunch meeting with someone who was craving a Chinese buffet. Oriental House is my go to in times like this. We walked in and realized they no longer do the buffet. On the way out we actually saw the buffet equipment out back behind the building. Thought the info might be helpful to someone.

I asked them recently about that decision. They said that they threw away a lot of food from the buffet & they received a lot of complaints from the buffet diners. They felt that in total, it was not worth the hassle & expense. They are very proud of their authentic Chinese food & want that to be the focus & not buffet chow.

Can't disagree with their rationale. The buffet was pretty crummy, especially relative to authentic menu.

I'm in total agreement with TP. Personally, I think Jade Palace should do likewise.

I've never eaten the buffet so it won't affect me directly - though I do worry what effect it will have on their bottom line. Obviously I trust them to know their own business, but having seen so many eating from the buffet at lunch it does make me worry about them losing business. Time for me to up my patronage to compensate maybe? Hahaha

Most Chinese buffet food is "dumbed down" for bland palates, so I won't waste my time going to a buffet only establishment. I hope this trend continues. As for cost, I can pick up freshly made Chinese at a local strip mall Chinese joint for the price of a typical buffet, and I can watch it being cooked.

I never ate from the buffet at Oriental House. Their menu is consistently good.
